1010music Bluebox

I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty sure the H6 does have up to 6 Mono inputs (or 3 Stereo)?!

my bad, it looks like they are mono.

only real caveat is the standalone vs audio interface for the Bluebox I guess then…

so Bluebox has 6 stereo or 12 mono channels vs H6 has 3 stereo or 6 mono (with the TRS/XLR extension of course)

it really depends on what you need then …not so sure I need to record 6 stereo sources simultaneously…

There’s also the difference in the practical experience alone. Feature by feature, the comparison’s relevant but so is a comparison with the Tascam Model 12 then. Yet, they’re very different once you approach and work with them.

I strongly doubt 1010 will go down the audio interface route. The Bluebox should be considered a mixer and recorder, that combines both those worlds into a coherent product.

Thomann tells me it’s delayed again for the third time. Now until 15.01.2021…

I haven’t received an update on my order - I do with they’d communicate this clearly!

For those wondering about the release schedule, I asked over on the 1010 forums and Aaron got back to me pretty quickly. This all sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Thanks for asking.

We expect the bluebox to ship from China to us on Christmas day. That means delivery to us here in the states and our distributor either right before or after New Years Day. From there, your retailer should have it in the first week of January.

We apologize for the delay and look forward to making you happy very soon

Late to the party, just seeing this now (via CDM actually). Thanks for the review and the clearly stated opinions, always good - and always rare - to get that in a review.

Personally I’m contemplating one of these for my live setup to replace an A&H ZED 14. The 12 mono inputs would make it work out (just!), and the eq, reverb & delay per track would help to simplify my setup a bit without losing vital capabilities…plus awesome to record multitrack on the fly, only I don’t get why the Bluebox doesn’t allow for different sample rates.

Mostly, the form factor is the key selling point for me for live gigs, space on the desk (and in my bags used to carry all the equipment) is at a premium

Thank you  after close to two months of use now, I find that live recording through multiple inputs and mixing options after the fact, is what I use it most for. I don’t much use layered multi-track sessions nor do I apply much of the reverb or delay. Compression and eq, I reach for all the time, though.

I’m very tempting by this unit. It solves my mixing, routing and recording wishes in a very nice formfactor.

@circuitghost After using it for a while now, what do you think of the 1/4inch ins en outs? These are my biggest concern (i have to buy a new cables for this).

And another question: does the unit stands firm with all the cables connected? I once had a Kmix and with all cables connected the unit bends over everytime :frowning: one of the reasons for selling it.

Personally, 1/8 inch cables for a travel rig are great. Way less volume to deal with.

Speaking of cables, I need to get some. Does anyone know if these will fit (I understand it’s quite tight at the back)

Hosa CMP-153 3.5mm TRS to Dual 1/4" TS Stereo Breakout Cable (3ft)

Those might be too tight, if you rack up a few connected next to each other.

It’s rock solid, even if you’re fully wired up and connected. The jacks are totally fine, just mind the size of your plugs to make sure you can have a few next to each other.

Is the distance between the plugs the same on the bluebox and blackbox? If not, how much tighter is the bluebox?

[Answered my own question from the photos — yes, they’re the same. Can confirm that e.g. https://www.thomann.de/intl/cordial_cfs_06_ww.htm will work.]

Yep, the same. Tight but doable. Choose wisely, as the knight said to Indy

I picked up a couple of these in anticipation of my Bluebox (thanks for the detailed coverage @circuitghost – really helped me understand what I was getting into):

They looked like the right size, especially compared to those Hosa cables, which I already have a few of; they’re fine but the plugs are bulky.

Ok, will check out Ugreen stuff. I want to run dual 1/4 monos into stereo - will this work or will the Y only go one way?

UGREEN 3.5mm 1/8" TRS to Dual 6.35mm 1/4" TS Mono Stereo Y-Cable Splitter Cord Compatible for iPhone, iPod, Computer Sound Cards, CD Players, Multimedia Speakers and Home Stereo Systems 3FT

Those squishy faders lack anything close to precision. Yes there’s a fine tune option, but it requires two hands to operate through a shift command. Even when you push a fader up carefully it would jump a little when you let go.

It was also excessively quiet. I had one and sold it because it was just frustrating to use with any precision.

Bluebox I trust will be a lot better based on my blackbox experience. But now I don’t really have a need for a small portable mixing solution. If I do…
