i also realized the Bluebox actually can do all the Mackie can but still gonna try a jam through the Mackie first.
Does anyone know if itās possible to hear the FX on the Phones/Cue output?
Currently, Iām only hearing the FX on Out 1.
Thanks, Iāve managed to work it out now.
First day with it, seems like a powerful little box.
iām really frustrated with finding break out cables on a german retailer which can fit together all nicely ā¦
1010 does make their own cables. Those are guaranteed to fit
Iām not sure if you can find them in germany, but they might be a good reference by which to compare other cables?
I have these:
Perfect fit.
Befaco have a very cheap stereo to mono trs splitter on Thonkā¦ Found out after buying the hosaās. Have ordered some anyway as look better for the bluebox https://www.thonk.co.uk/shop/befaco-stereo-to-mono-y-splitter-cable/
Iāve just ordered the Cordial ones from Germany to UK. Heard they work, will let you know once Iāve tested them.
which cordial ones? can you send me a link?
A few users have said these fit perfectly.
confirming cordial ones are good
I combine them with pro snake, one cordial, one snake, ā¦ etc
Bought one of these this week, really enjoying the ease of use! Fairly intuitive. Midi sync is great, seems to have nice headroom and it pairs so well with the Novation launch control XL as a little portable mixing setup. Got a lot of grooveboxes and guitar pedals - lovely to be able to use them in stereo and record/control the pedal FX outputs separately.
Personally think the issue with the cable sizes seems to be a bit overblown - Iāve not had an issue using any of the cables I had lying around and ended up buying a load of new cables I didnāt need, all good though - you can never have too many!
Other than sometimes getting low level digital noise/ hum with some USB powered gear the only thing that I find very strange is whyis the B button is on the left?! The alphabet runs ABC, but minor gripe lol. Big thumbs up from me.
EDIT: actually super annoying it doesnāt have an on / off switch!
Iāve also been loving the Bluebox. Iām only two weeks in, but Iāve managed to get my head around all the features and have used it to record a few sessions. The power of the Bluebox lies within its flexibility. Once youāve organised a template, itās as simple as pressing the record button. I love that everything has a pre-fader option, which allows you to record your tracks in a non-destructive way, then mix them afterwards.
I donāt own a Blackbox, but the Bluebox has piqued my interest. Am I right to think of the Bluebox and Blackbox as being like Abletonās Arrangement and Session view?
These ones worked for me:
Yes you could think of it that way, but I would caution not to. A lot of early adopters of the BlackBox watched Loopops review video where he likened it or Ableton, and I believe it put unfair expectations on the device. Of the various groove boxes, DAW-in-a-box, samplers, and software/DAWās that I have, I find the BlackBox to be the least capable individually, especially considering itās price.
Now donāt get me wrong, I love my BlackBox but I donāt need it to do much. For me itās a way of adding 16 streaming tracks to my other devices like the Digitakt or Akai Force among others.
My way of working with the BB is to curate and massage my samples outside of the BB to get the sound I want, then load them onto the BlackBox and use the LFOās and other featureās as needed.
I would never rely on it as my āmain brainā although many do. If you already have ways of working with samples such as a DAW, an IOS device, etc., then I would recommend the BlackBox knowing you could apply FX, produce Midi files more easily, and have some sound generating devices or software to make multi sample groups and record lead/bass/melody lines. This could as simple as a few apps, a free or cheap daw like Live light or Garbeband etc.
I am trying to figure out if Iād click best with the BlackBox, the BlueBox or the SP404mkii.
Basically I use the MPC One as my brain and sample into it from my turntables, or mixer that has synths and drum machines on it.
I can do full tracks in just the MPC One and then I export the stems into my DAW and mix. But What I want to do is be able to record long takes without needing to use my DAW, since the MPC does a lot better when its the master clock. Also I donāt want to do everything in the MPC.
So, I also have an octatrack and I use that for breakbeats, vocalsā¦sampling my synthsā¦really anything. What I do there is make different scenes and parts and use the crossfader so each sample in the Ot is more of a performance that I play live across the entire song. So basically I am doing 5-6 minute takes either out of the OT or maybe just while playing a synth.
The MPC is not great for recording these, and the OT can quickly run out of space so I am thinking that the SP404 will possibly be my solution there. All I really need is for it to sync to the MPC and start recording in time. And then from there I can process the already processed sound even further and then pull that stem off of the 404 and drop it in the project with the MPC stems. They should all be in sync this way.
So I think the Blackbox would be a good option to weight against the 404. Maybe the bluebox but I dont need multitracking. I do one long take at a time and perform it live. The goal here is to have all the stems from the MPC and which device I choose to easily be dropped into the DAW without me needing to do much more besides mix the track. This keeps everything in tight sync without the computer jitter being an issue and also drops in tracks with tons of automation and movement already so the DAW will really just be my editor and mix stage.
It kind of sounds like you are doing this with the Black box but im not sure. I figured id ask since I suspect the 404 can do all these things, but if not, I need a backup plan.
Sounds to me like you donāt really need another sampler, the Bluebox seems best for what you are looking for and might also give you the opportunity to include some other gear in your performances without having to take up inputs on your samplers.
I agree that BlueBox would be a good choice. You can record individual tracks. Hereās an excerpt from the manual that might explain a good use case for youā¦
ā With bluebox, you can record individual tracks and the Main mix to WAV files on the microSD card. You can record some tracks while playing back other tracks to create a layered recording. Recording can start at the beginning of the timeline or in the middle of the timeline. You can punch in a recording to overdub sections of tracks as needed. You can even record all 12 tracks plus the Main mix at once. You can then take the WAV files to your computer to further refine your mix. You can record a jam session up to 4 hours long and then take the file to your computer to pull out the best parts. You can choose whether to record tracks pre- or post- fader.ā
