1010music Bluebox

Nice! And would almost be perfect if it has some edit capabilities, like copy/past pieces from on to another track and so on. Maybe with an update sometime

I love this idea. I will definitely need one of these. I almost never write music near a computer, and donā€™t like having a laptop nearby if Iā€™m sitting on the couch with a Digis/Digi-Typhon or something like that. Iā€™m not really into the portable/field recorder devices much either, and would like a little bit of mixing ability. Then Iā€™m always happy to dump it onto the computer later for further treatment.

Iā€™ve been wishing Elektron would do something like this in Digi format for some time now. Still with the sequencer, so one could automate like on the MX-1.

Finally watched the Loopop review.

My take that no one asked for is that itā€™s a really nice piece of gear for the cost. I think itā€™s niche for tabletop setups that want multi-track recording (sans DAW) and mixing.

No GAS for me on this one, but it does make me think of the possibilities of an Elektron device in this lane. Sequenced effects, knobs, 12 inputs, 6 outputs, flexible routingā€¦ dreaming. I know itā€™s basically asking for an OT with more ins/outs and tracks.

I think Elektron missed the boat on this, itā€™s been a major user request over the last few years on this board for an elektron mixer/recorder but nothing has ever materialised. I think 1010 are on the pulse of what musicians want and the product looks ace

The MX-1 would be amazing if it had a more realistic, non-proprietary I/O.

very true - could of and should of done it first

It looks really useful. And has a clear appeal to synth ppl. But got to say it seems weird watching a 2020 video where someone has to wish for punch-in and looped recording on a digital multitrack. Like, that was available on tape 4 tracksā€¦

and making a big deal of takes. Cheap Boss machines from 15 years ago had that. And you can switch them while playing.

Hoping synth gear makers get into a ā€˜deep multitracker / looper-composerā€™ race

The weirdest about this is, no one did this until now. Itā€™s not exactly a subtle cry in the community for a mixer that embraces modern tech with yesterdayā€™s pretty clever features. And when someone like Tascam kind of touches on it with the Model series, people go ā€œOooh.ā€ Thatā€™s how starved we are.

This is the blueprint for next gen portable summing and recording. What the Bluebox does and doesnā€™t is one thing - and 1010 is known for powerful firmware updates, so this is probably just the beginning anyway - but that itā€™s the end of a hiatus in modern out of the box mixing, letā€™s hope.

Completely.
For ages I wondered why no one had developed further on something like the BOSS BR-80.

That thing came out like 10 years ago, and with technological advances since then, you would have thought someone would come up with a really cool device.
I figured there must not have been the market, but with the interest the bluebox is generating, there clearly is.

Why doesnā€™t the K-Mix get more love? No onboard recording, but can be used as an audio interface, nice and compact, plenty of ins and outs, some FXā€¦

Definitely feature rich for a compact device.
Not sure about the funny membrane interface thing though.
I never got on with the qunexus. Whatā€™s it like in use?
Onboard recording could have swayed me, but then youā€™d have probably needed some kind on screen etc.

The Digimix:

6 or 8 inputs (3 or 4 stereo), each channels has eq, two filters, overdrive, compressor and send fx to delay / reverb / chorus / etc. The first two inputs also are XLR inputs and have a preamp for microphones. And some envelopes and LFOā€™s there for the experimental and cool stuff.

The headphone output can be used to monitor individual inputs / soloā€™ing for sound checks. Of course the device would be Overbridge enabled and includes the famous p-lock enabled sequencer (with midi sync) for anything that is controllable (and select presets).

I would buy it.

I havenā€™t used oneā€¦ was close to pulling the trigger a while back. The vibe from reviews seemed to be that the interface took a bit of getting used to, but worked well enough. It works stand alone, too. Plus full size jacks + 2x XLR.

Any reason technically why the Bluebox couldnā€™t be made class compliant in a firmware update? That would have me off the fence.

Totally agree! When I was deciding what to do for my next project I was considering something just like this, as nobody else seemed to be. Even drew a few sketches which look surprisingly familiar. But in the end decided to make something else instead.

I think this is one master channel insert away from my perfect mixing/performing/recording/mastering tool.

How were you thinking about doing it?
I was wondering if you could do something Raspberry Pi based.

This device would cost $2,000+ dollars.

edit: depending on who makes it, I suppose. There are mega mixers like this (the MODEL 1 comes to mind). They donā€™t have the sequencer, but mixers like this are generally meant for live tweaking and playing vs. sequencing events.

Iā€™ve been thinking about something like this myself for ages. I had a couple of ideas, one was 2 rows of 8 q-link like encoders with the little oled above each. Could switch from level to pan etc and the screens would all update. Also could be used as a step sequencer like cirklon in same box, with cv outs. Could also use 2 rows of 8 motorised faders instead like those on the new Chase Bliss pedal

I was seriously considering buying a K-Mix back in spring. On paper it looked like the perfect thing for me. And It still does, on paper.

But reading on various forums it was apparent that the K-Mix has broken windows drivers that never got fixed. Not patching drivers is a red flag for me, and I also happen be a windows users. My impression after doing the research is that it seems like they just gave up on the product.

But maybe Iā€™m wrong and things have changed since then. I really liked the concept.

Not enough channels. Nice box otherwise.
