A good soundcard for AK?

Hi!
I just bought an AK, and am new to this whole thing…

I do have a sound card with only two inputs, but would like to upgrade in order to use the individual outputs of the AK. Do I need a sound card with 4 inputs, or do I also need the left + right output as I record into my DAW, meaning that I need 6 inputs?

Thanks

Hi @Abbe,

One of the features of the AK is that it can make use of Elektron’s Overbridge protocol, which allows you to use a single USB cable to transfer all the audio outputs of the AK directly to your DAW.

Have you considered this? Which DAW do you use? You might not need a sound card at all.

Subjective thing fella

How many ins and outs do you need?

What’s your budget?

Do you use a mixer?

Are you looking at hardware and no computer?

Do you intend to grow your studio?

Personally, I use a focusrite Scarlett 18/6. This gives me 18 ins and 6 outs. Although in the real world, that’s not quite right. For instance, the headphone output, is considered one of the 6 outs.

There’s a plethora of options out there mate, so give us a bit more info and I’m sure you will get some great guidance!

Oh, I didn’t know that. Will definitely try that out! Right now I still use Garageband, as I’m only starting out. I haven’t got Overbridge to work completely yet, but working on it

Thanks for the advice! I think I’ll try to record via USB/Overbridge for now, and then I’ll see if I need something more after that…

Yes good idea. I appear to have completely missed the point of your original post so my apologies!
