A4 does not comunicate with C6

Hi there,

For some reason I am not able to send data from the A4 to the computer.

In the Midi port configurations of the A4 I had set Input from Midi+usb Output from Midi+usb

On the C6 config Midi In MotuUltralite-Midi Port
Midi Out A4

Is there something I am doing wrong???

I would use USB connection … is way faster

The problem is not about being slow, the problem is that the data does not goes through

why set C6 to the MOTU, why not use the USB route to the A4 ?

I also try,

On the C6 config Midi In A4
Midi Out A4

And it does not work either

you need to be clearer, are you using USB to get MIDI info to computer, if so, you need to have MIDI in set to A4, in fact, if it’s set up properly (i.e. not in Overbridge mode) then it’ll likely auto select A4 and the Turbo button will be enabled by default when you RELAUNCH C6, given it’s finicky USB it’s important to reboot C6, if it is a DIN config there’s no need to restart

This is fairly simple stuff, it should work, try to be methodical, like ruling out other MIDI issues by using the A4 mini keyboard as a 'controller keyboard, or using a DAW to play the A4 voices … i.e. be sure that the MIDI i/o is set up right, then use C6 to send/receive what you need

I have terrible luck with C6 and the A4 as well.
The RYTM seems fine.

I use Sysex Librarian for the A4.

I use USB to connect the Elektrons to the computer, because there is one box less in the line, which can cause trouble and it works pretty reliable, as avantronica says.

Anyway … USB gives us the opportunity to check, wether the Rytm is properly connected or not. A classical midi connection doesn’t do this and there is no real handshaking protocoll, just a send and hope it will be received …

To set up USB is easy. If you have a very old OS, be sure that in “Global Menu/System/USB config” = “USB-Midi only” is selected. Up to date OS versions should be rid of a bug, which has caused some issues.

You may also want to check “Global Menu/Midi Config/Midi Port Config”. The “Out Port” should be “midi”.

C6 or other sysex utilities should now show up with a “Rytm” to be selected as input and ouput. This verifies that the Rytm is connected. After setting the in- and output in the utility to “Rytm” everything should be ready to go.

Now you can

  • set the Rytm “Global Menu/Sysex Dump/Sysex Receive” to “Anything” or one of the other options
  • select the file to be transmitted from the computer to the Rytm and send it away,

or

  • set C6 in receive mode
  • set “Global Menu/Sysex Dump/Sysex Send” to “Project” or one of the other options … and send.

Hope this helps … and maybe a look in the manual, if you need more details

Thanks a lot for all the answers, I am new with the a4 so sometimes I get some basic questions,
