I prefer the drum sound on my A4. Over my Analog Rytm. I really can’t stand the hats on the Rytm and the kicks can be a bit flabby also good kicks on the A4 seem to have a weight to them and cut through the mix better.
I’ve found the trick to interesting kicks and hats on the Rytm is clever LFO work.
Also the HPF side chain on Rytm’s compressor helps get the kicks through the mix.
The A4 is my goto drum machine. I didn’t give the rytm the time it deserves because I’m so fluent with the a4 now. It’s not great for everything percussion but it is great for kicks hats and some snares. I’m really looking forward to hearing what folks do with FM for new percs and donks. Plus the new sequencer features are golden.
i don’t own an a4 but i’m having a blast with those drum enthusiast samples loaded into my md. if it sounds this good played back at 12bit i can see why so many users dig it as a perc source.
bought a AK to accompany my A4 just for more drums… was thinking of getting an OT and just record drums, and then start over … AR is sitting also on the table… toms are nice …
a4 ak seems like a bit of an overkill for a hobbyist like me, but YOLO
