Ableton Live 11

I just looking forward if they are able to solve the pdc plugin delay compensation issue that is appearing since V8. This means if a vst is introducing latency like overbridge Live isnt able to compensate and your automisation and sidechain is out of sync same for volume shapers. Makes me move to Bitwig and as Live only user since V4 need to say it does everything better and more as live, loading a project alone is ten times faster.
Paying 199€ for this update same for V10 to make it mostly nicer without really better except some really good but mostly workflow related optimizations. This new devices are mostly available in Max in similar forms since years. Just want to raise that because a lot of frustration to found this out in the end.

Pretty sure this was fixed in 9 or 10? There was a big deal about it at the time. You can still disable it in Options for lowest latency

If you bought it close to the announcement, they’re doing a deal of 20% Live 10 with a free upgrade to 11. You may be able to contact customer service and work something out.

Nope itˋs not solved.

Just an example:

you found more if you are interested.

Yep, a friend of mine bought 10 one month before and he got a free upgrade to 11 after speaking to support

Ah OK, to be honest I’ve never noticed the issue so wasn’t that concerned about it but sounds like certain plugins do have it worse than others

I wonder if Live 11 will have better mono track support. Like freeze/render a mono recorded track in place and have the rendered file be mono. Or record from a track with a mono file to another track without the resulting file being in stereo. Anyone have any insight if this will be possible in Live 11?

Basically what I’m wondering is if Live 11 will allow for mono tracks :yum:

Although every track is stereo by default, recording a mono track is perfectly possible – it’s just that Live displays it as a stereo track, with exactly the same audio being sent left and right. It is still mono. Plus the Utility plugin can easily mono-ise a stereo track if required or even just have the bass end below a certain frequency in mono and the rest as stereo. Seriously, this is a non issue.

I’m still on 9.5 with High Sierra and us Live mostly to sequence and mix down my tunes.

Anyone here use the Educators Discount to purchase? I’m a Physics teacher and was hoping to maybe go this way.

Thanks in advance.

Nah I sold my live standard around live V8. But I have 2 live 10 intro licences from hardware. So I get a discounted update to 10 suite plus the 20% off. But its billed immediately

I’ve got an educational license, was a great deal. But I’m not sure you can use it on upgrades.

Edit: To be clear, use it to update an existing license that is non-EDU

This is related to how many latency will be introduced its different per vst as example if you use fabfilter in linearphase mode its going up to 180ms, Overbridge 23ms etc. Also depends how many are used on the channel, there is a formula to calculate that. But if you want to catch initial transients with sidechain every ms counts right…

To me this seems like more of a small features update not really justifying the label “11”, adding some complexity that for my level is unnecessary. Will stick to 10 Suite. Might upgrade in a year or so.

Totally agree that it isn’t a major problem in the grand scheme of things. It only really annoys me when I send stuff out to hardware units for processing. It is not possible to create a mono track so I have to select the same output for two tracks and pan each hard left or hard right.

Recording mono tracks is of course possible and that is fine, I just wish sometimes that Ableton would support actual mono tracks.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of Ableton. As a creative tool it is hard to beat. I was using Cubase for the last 15 years as my main DAW and switched to Ableton a couple of years ago. Overall I like working with Ableton more but I miss a few “traditional” workflow things - such as mono tracks

Since I run a hybrid setup with multiple I/O connected to a patch bay with access to hardware compressors, EQs etc. it’s then I’ve run into the Ableton mono limitations and workarounds.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record :stuck_out_tongue: Some people wish for snazzy new effects, new virtual instruments and more samples. Some people wish for boring old mono tracks.

If you choose a mono output in the drop down menu of an audio track, Live will send mono out, if you select a mono input in the drop down menu of an audio track, Live records in mono. From that point onwards, though, Live will display the audio as dual mono, so any additional processing and recording within Live will result in dual mono.
Or maybe I’m not really getting what you mean…

I hope they will fix quite annoying behaviour, that is ignored since Ableton 8 at least. When you plug out the audio interface — ableton shows an error, but when you plug it back it doesn’t connect back to it, you have to go to settings. Or is it not possible due to macOS audio management?

I don’t have that problem with mac os. In Windows 10 I do though

Hm, thanks, or maybe it depends from audio interface, though I have Focusrite Scarlett, which is of course one of cheapest, but very popular, even Ableton use it in their promo videos.

I have this problem every single day. Open prefs and select audio interface is just a matter of course for me now. Logic can remember your interface, why can’t Live?
