Elektron spoiled me. I want step automation. I want Microtonic to have step automation while being split into separate tracks. I just now discovered that I can’t keep my parameters up when I’m hitting the other tabs. BUT if I could send midi messages to the drum rack from various other tracks in there I might be able to have my cake AND eat it. All from my Push 2.
The alternative would be: design my kits in regular mode. and then program the percussion from my MDUW or from a DT that I might soon acquire- sequence and step lock from that.
Most immediate would be if I could have Midi tracks in the drum rack that I could send automation data(and single note data) to the hub of the drum rack to send to the external audio tracks.
nevermind. I just created an empty track outside of the drum rack to send to the drum rack so I can play my percussion and alter parameters from a single page.
Done and done.
She there’s not a way to divvy up the midi responsibilities to a few tracks to cut down on the different menus I’m searching for, though
Edit: Now I have to figure out how to send non-note data from the midi track to the drum rack…
but yeh you can route midi from one track to another… say for example you load Kontakt into one track and then a bunch of different instruments on different midi channels, then you can route different individual midi tracks back into that one track that has the VST plugin
I don’t know how fried my brain is right now. So I’ll try to translate myself as best I can.
I’ve got Microtonic- multi out wrapped in a drum rack. It works great. for sheer note data, everything’s working great.
I want to be able to use this rack to design my kits as well. I can jam, twist parameters, design my kits simultaneously to composing the rhythms.
I’ve got a midi track out side of the drum rack that I’m sending the note data to. So I can play all the voices of microtonic, but stay on the same screen on Push.
Ideal level- I want to send all 127 cc channels from the external midi track to the microtonic drum rack.
Utopian level- I want to make a second drum rack, but only containing midi tracks that I can put each singular voice’s parameter data on each midi tracking when I hit the relational pad, those parameters would pop up automatically.
Though, now that I’m thinking about this- I reckon it would just be easier to load up the regular version of Microtonic for composition- and then, when it’s time to record, switch it to the multi-out version? All the notes would be the same, potentially even the CCs?
basically I want to turn Microtonic and my Push 2 into a figurative Machinedrum.
Each midi/instrument track has in the I/O section a “MIDI-From” section. The initial values of the two drop down lists are “All Ins” and below “All Channels”.
If we select the first drop down, there will be at the lower end a sub-list of all “midi-tracks” of the project. If we select one of those, the midi will be routed to our track.
Alternatively we can select the “MIDI-To” section to route the midi to a dedicated track.
AFAIK, there is no “midi” difference between midi and drum tracks. It’s only a kind of piano-roll display vs drum instrument descriptions. If you know your CCs and create them in a different track, they will control the drums as well, if you route them to a drum track.
Awesome! I think that’ll do me! I’ll try it when I wake up! Got frustrated and decided to relieve some stress with some FM sound design- didn’t work, reality doesn’t make sense anymore. I’m gonna go sleep.
