If it’s not pitched to c it makes chromatic difficult to use but not impossible. I am totally for leaving stuff like field samples however they are recorded. But for samples you intend to use chromatically for melodic parts pitching to c saves some mental gymnastics.

And it’s not so much field recordings, per se, but one-shot or textural results gotten from processing a field recording I’d like to use musically later.
I’m useless, carrying its not the problem it’s keeping it charged. It’s always dead when I go to use it

Your field recorder has an internal battery?
It’s become for me now that for any trip prepping my field recorder is part of packing. It was never always that way, for sure not. Just a routine one has to be aware of for a bit and then it becomes second nature.
