Analog Addition to DT/DN Setup

Hi guys,

I’m rethinking my setup right now and selling all the stuff I’m not constantly using. Right now I’m searching for a good sounding and versatile middle class analog synth to add some punch in my DT-DN-OP1 setup. Something like the 0-Coast, Behringer Model-D or Mother32. Do you have some experiences with one of them or can you suggest something else?

I’m happy about any info! Thx a lot!

I’ve used the DSI Evolver for a while now with the DT (and now with the DN). It’s pretty flexible and can compliment FM synthesis nicely because of its own FM and ring mod parameters.

I’ve used it for bass duties mostly, but it’s awesome for leads and percusion stuff.

dirt cheap A4 mk1 is probably the best analog addition but you need to learn it!

I’m looking for something more “direct” without any menu diving if you know what I mean

I know you mentioned a synth / sound source, but one thing that would add a lot to that setup is an analog heat. MK1 models are going for ridiculous prices. The heat plays really well with both Digitakt and Digitone. In my opinion it makes the Digitone (anything, really) sound incredible.

More to your question, I had an 0-coast as I weaned myself from modular. Sold it earlier this year in a fit of downsizing. It is a really fun synth, and can scratch that modular itch. It definitely can provide a lot of food for the Digitakt. If I got around to learning how to use the DT as a sampler (vs. sample player), I probably would’ve kept both the 0-coast and DT. Now that I have an Octatrack, I’m missing having things to sample, but the Digitone checks so many boxes for me, I don’t miss the other gear too much.

I’d take a good look at that new Moog Sirin.

Roland SH01a?

Not analog technically.

any mono synth really. but if you wanna get deep think about something with midi controllable parameters. the BSII is great for this but it would double the size of your set up. maybe a volca bass?

SE-02 will do punch and it’s very versatile.

It has a few tricks up its sleeve that the Boog doesn’t - patch memory being a biggie.

Sounds like you’re looking for mono rather than poly? I will suggest getting something semi modular like the Moog Grandmother. Those extra patch points really open the monos up although of course something like the pro one has robust modulation capabilities (for a knob per function mono analog that is).

So my advice is go for something normalized but patchable.

Edit: also two oscs is good but not necessarily necessary

The Roland Boutique stuff looks quite promising. Thx guys!

SH-01A and SE-02 are my two favourite boutiques, but they’re great in general. I think which one is best for you is down to the tone you want. 01A is that classic Roland sweet filter sound (plus 4-note poly/unison as a bonus), SE-02 is classic Minimoog territory (plus quite a bit of overdrive, and a solid delay effect built in). SE-02 can get bigger / more aggressive, I feel. SH-01A is maybe a bit quicker/easier to get to grips with.

Since they lowered the price to compete with the Behringer D, the SE-02 is one of the biggest bargains out there, IMO. £379 from Andertons or DV247. A Mother 32 will run you over £500, the Sirin over £600.

Behringer Neutron ?

Or wait for the Arturia Microfreak?

I have a Dreadbox Nyx. It’s great fun, but I found a great deal on an OT mk 1 plus some cash from my side so I think I will let the Nyx go.

Edit: If I could just go out and get an analog synth to add to my setup (which consists of DT, DN, Heat and Blofeld) it would hands down be a SE 02. Hands down. That thing sounds sooo good.

0-Coast all the way. So crazy awesome, especially with the extra CV and Gate control that you can effect via a totally different MIDI channel. Tip, BUY MORE PATCH CABLES! I love my 0Coast.

But the sound is analog and it has a great hands on interface and is a wide sweet spot synth.
