I’m sure many of you are already doing this, but I liked the results so much I have to share!
I downloaded a bunch of analog drum samples.
Each folder contained 32 samples of one sound (kick, snare, hihats, etc).
Each sample was the exact same sound, but with the slight tonal/amplitude variation inherent to the original analog box.
At first I was just going to grab one sample of each sound and make a quick drum kit for the OT, but then I did this:
I made sample chains of each individual sound (32 slice kick, 32 slice snare etc).
Popped them into a flex machine and assign LFO to start time/random envelope.
Now every time one of the drums hits it picks a random slice and introduces a slight tonal/amplitude variation.
Instantly gives drum beats a more ‘human’ feel.
P.S. if you are interested, here is a link to the drum samples I used… they are free from wave alchemy

[edit] this also makes playing the drum sounds from a drum pad much more ‘lively’!
