I can quite easily get stuck in modulating state when flicking the joystick down gently. As in it keeps modulating the sound even if the joystick is back in center position.
If I go to the breath controller setup screen (sound settings) I can actually see that it gets stuck (not returning to “zero”) by looking at the knob graphic on the screen representing the breath controller amount.
Have anyone else noticed this? I am hoping it isn’t a hardware issue with my AK.
besides the internal evidence, perhaps you could use some midi monitor app to see if the joystick consistently returns to zero, presumably it kicks out CCs on two axes (and maybe nrpns) - see if you can get it to work externally before assuming the hardware is sticky or out of calibration, might be a fixable soft glitch !
have you upgraded to the 1.1 OS, or running the prerelease OS which was installed when you received the AK? maybe the issue is fixed with the actual 1.1
cool - out of interest are the 15 params addressable via joystick in addition or instead of params directly addressable via pitchbend/modwheel etc - partly out of curiosity towards patch compatibility but also processing power (although i guess they’d assume no ‘additional’ explicit modwheel/pitch action if you are in joystick mode) ! or is the joystick just a combo pitch/mod like on old roland gear ?
According to Elektron’s AK Overview on their own site, the Joystick can have up to 15 (FIFTEEN) assigned parameters:
"[Performance optimized
The Analog Keys is tailor-made for the stage. The 37 semi-weighted keys of the keyboard give instant fingertip control of the analog tones. The special performance mode offers direct access to user-defined parameters, and the joystick, capable of controlling up to fifteen parameters, allows for extreme morphing of sounds. Improvising when playing live has never been this easy]"
"[Can I use the Analog Keys as a MIDI controller?
Yes. Press the dedicated MIDI Ext button and the Analog Keys will operate as a MIDI controller keyboard. The keyboard, the encoders, and the joystick can now control external MIDI gear. The MIDI channels and CC parameters to be used in MIDI Ext mode are completely user configurable.]"
Since the new A4 O.S. 1.1b Reference Manual does not cover nearly all of the AK functions, as expanded multi map with assignable sounds per key and purposed meanings of dimmed/bright/active LEDS…and fact Elektron even states one can have the A4 sequencer playing it’s own tracks while you can simultaneously hit the midi controller button and use the keys to at same time play our other midi synths…no, I am not confused, nor do I mean external sequencing via midi…there’s much to be gained by knowledge yet disclosed about Analog Keys and once a Reference Manual for AK is posted for download, hopefully once these things are cleared-up so we can know how well or not the AK will fit in our particular set-ups; Elektron definitely will be selling 5 AK’s amongst keyboard players I know and frat with in my Metra area and music scene.
The joystick is a combo of:
left/right = pitch bend
up = modwheel
down = breath controller[/quote]
aaaahhhhh - interesting - fully compatible and not doing any more processing, quite clever to have bi-directional mod too ie mod> breath< !!

See, that’s the thing right there. I still don’t know the FACTS about the AK vs A4. I was under the impression that the multi-map feature is also available for the A4 when controlled by an external keyboard. So is it or is it not? Can you only do that on the AK? Or is the difference is only about the AK having a dedicated multi-map button that makes short cut?
Edit: Never mind. I just checked the A4 new manual (updated to OS 1.1b) from page 48 and on, and multi map is also on the A4. So no. Multi map isn’t a special feature of the AK.
