Analog rytm pads

today my brand new analog RYTM mkII came home and i am currently unpacking and im very happy and excited, everything looks to be in order, almost,

the first thing i always do when i sit down with a brand new piece of gear is to tjeck and touch every knob and pad, looking for jiggly knobs etc,

i did find one thing, when i place a finger on one of the drum pads, lets say the bottom left number 1 BD, and i move the pad up/down/sideways i notice that its a little bit loose and that the other pads follow the movement, does you guys RYTM have the same feature ? i really hope its a feature and not a build quality mistake plz let me know

The pads are made from a single sheet of silicon, so there is some slight movement between pads when deliberately trying to move one of them around as you suggested. But it doesn’t affect anything. Turn it on and start hitting them, not rubbing them! (Also, welcome to the forum)

I bought a Rytm mk2 last week and have spent the last 5 days or so getting to grips with the undeniably steep learning curve and I’m only now coming to the point of taking a good look at the responsiveness of the pads and I’m not happy with what I’m finding at all. It’s not just the lack of sensitivity but the response curve seems anything but linear. the slightest increase in velocity results in jumps from very quiet to full volume and very little gradation between the two and to make things worse the response is somewhat erratic. The Alesis SR16 had to be hit very hard but at least its behaviour was predictable. It looks like I’m going to have to get something else for finger drumming because this machine just doesn’t respond the way I need it to. My old DR660 had much nicer feeling pads and responsiveness right out of the box with a choice of velocity curves. To not have that option on an instrument at this price point is inexcusable. Elektron really needs to get around to addressing this problem.

I just used the Rytm MK2 as a trigger for NI Battery and they worked fine, no lack of sensitivity issues whatsoever so there really isn’t anything physically wrong with the pads themselves. The problem is that the velocity curve within the Rythm itself has just been badly set up, something that would be totally fixable with a software update.

I have the same issue. The problem is not the sensitivity to reach full velocity. It’s that my unit cannot be played softly. At all. I need to smash it to get ANY sound to come out of it. I am a bit sad that I need to throw the warranty out the window to try the tape trick.

I usually use the pad menu to shorten the range of velocity so that, at least, it’s lightest sensitivity still makes enough sound. But I lose a lot of range/expressivity :frowning:

EDIT: the message has been moved here, but I don’t have a Rytm. I meant my unit of the Model:Samples. I was replying to the original topic. Sorry for the misunderstanding :stuck_out_tongue:
