Analogue Mixer Fx Send/Return Question!

Hi guys!

Just had a question in regard to my setup.

I have recently got a ProFX 16 channel Mixer to connect my digi, tone etc.

I’m trying to setup an FX send/return chain with delay, reverb, phaser pedals.

There is one slot for FX send (assuming mono) and 2 FX return slots (stereo).

I am wondering if I am losing stereo width here?? My pedals are all stereo? I make dub techno so I am really trying to utilise the stereo field with external fx.

Attached is a pic of what I am talking about.

Please let me know if I am wrong or if there is a workaround here!

Thanks so much,

Cooper

i don’t know that mixer, but looking at a picture it looks like you could use the two monitor sends - so for the mono tracks use 1/3/5/7 with mon send pot 1 and 2/4/6/8 with mon send pot 2 - then use either a stereo track to return or teh aux return, but doing that may disable the internal fx - there will be a good diagram of signal flow in you manual or online

your fx send shown in pic is definitely mono (the legend balanced/unbalanced is hidden)

I tried using the monitor sends but the fx sounded muffled and quite poor. Is there any other workarounds??

What a shame that the send is mono and return is stereo.

Typically mono sends are fine? Most of the stereo width comes from the effect itself not the source material. Even further – most hardware effects sum the stereo signal down to mono anyways before it gets processed.
So far I never came across an occasion where I found a mono aux send to be lacking.

Are you saying I should use these rather then the 1 fx send ?

I’m just trying to maintain a stereo path with my fx setup, especially for the phaser pedal with modulation and movement flowing left and right.

Thanks for your response! Hope I can figure this one out

I’m sorry I don’t understand what you mean? Splitting? My apologies I just don’t understand haha I’m a bit of a newbie!

I just like the appeal of stereo fx as (and I could be wrong) it provides more width to the effects.

And I’m suggesting you should consider if it really is necessary.
Like I said, most of the stereo width comes from the effects themselves, not the signal they’re being fed.

Like avantronica said, if you’re really picky about your stereo path, you can use both aux sends, mono 1 for the left channel, mono 2 for the right channel.

You’re Stereo Pedals should have Mono In, Stereo Out. Which Delay and Reverb Pedals do you have?

I have a Boss rv6, Helix Phaser and Boss space echo! Is my question really dumb? They would work mono I just assumed if you have mono out (from the fx send) that even though the aux return is stereo it would be summed as mono as thats what the send is?

I am just trying to setup these 3 pedals in the best way possible with this mixer. Any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks!
