AR Analog Rytm feature request thread

I agree that param slide is the way to go most of the time, but when you want a param to slide smoothly along a thick line of hihats, an LFO is really more pratical.

Also, in a way the AR MKII is a Digitakt + drum synthesis. Makes sense that it would not lag behind the Digitakt in terms of features.

Agreed

Wow you know what’s super interesting. I’ve seen this diagram a hundred times, using it to figure out routing with Overbridge when I first got my AR. But this is the first time I’m noticing that the noise generator is digital. I always thought it was analog as well.

Plus it’s really easy to send a MIDI LFO to it so if you really need extra LFOs, and have an OT, or MD, or really any other midi sequencer with LFOs, you can just use that

This could bring also some other exiting possibilities.

Like to expanding the digital noise section with 256 waveforms inspired by the Kawai XD-5

Okay you could say, use the sampling engine for that. But here comes the interesting part, by using sample engine only for the attack transients just like on the Roland D-50 and then combining those with the 256 waveforms from the noise section.

Well just thinking out loud now, maybe it’s just too much for the AR. Anywho, it will bring the AR into new territories

PSA

Just a reminder (esp for all the 2nd LFO comrades) that officially Elektron does not take feature requests from this forum.

The official request hot-line is feature-request@elektron.se

A thing I already know of but appreciate the reminder for. EMAIL SENT.

Since all the big wishes are already being expressed :joy: can we please make the note parameter [FUNC] snap per octave instead of two? :pray:t2:

I would love to have the ability to select a track by pad pressure rather than velocity, so that i don’t just trigger the sound while quickly switching tracks.

This is why there’s the option to turn off quick track selection by pad. When it’s turned off [TRK+PAD] selects the track, with no triggering. I use my Rytm this way most of the time.

I accept that it’s a bit more fiddly than your suggestion.

I understand completely since I’ve been a RYTM player for about 6 years. The option to switch without triggering the sound by holding the track button is of course the original implementation, so I’m very used to it. After the quick switching option was added - I didn’t use it much because it causes me to trigger sounds just to select tracks. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to be able to quickly select tracks without triggering the sound.

But having to press a pad slowly and gently to select it is a slower way of selecting a track than pressing FUNC + Pad… The current two ways of selecting tracks is really good IMO.

I’d worry that a slow/soft press to select would make it even less likely Elektron improve the sensitivity curve of the pads for normal playing. Most people find it’s not responsive enough to soft taps as it is, let alone having to distinguish between “playing” and “selecting”.

About the pads sensitivity it’s strange that you can toggle scenes by the lightest touch but actual triggering a pad with FIX on takes quite a hard tap. They are probably two different functions or else they would have improved the sensitivity. I find them a little too hard to play too. But I do use them.

Yeah I’ve always wondered about the pads and why they behave so differently in mute mode than in play mode. It’s definitely a bummer, from an otherwise amazing machine. Shame that you can’t tap out quick 16th notes without the sound failing to trigger every few taps. I’ve always wondered how bad the MK1 pads must be if these are “improved”.

I have the mk1 and I can tap out steady 16th notes all day long. It took a little while to get used to the response/ feel but I adjusted.
People do like to go on about how terrible the pads are, and I fully agree that they leave a lot to be desired, but they’re usable if you just adjust your playing style a bit. They should be better for the price but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. I would like to try the mk2 to see how they’re improved.

The ability to sidechain.

Could be accessed in a few different ways.

  1. By pointing the LFO at a track
(Maybe the most easiest way to implement?)

  2. Giving up the fade (FAD) for the LFO

  3. My favourite… sidechain given its own page with the ability to set sensitivity levels - same functionality as the Analog Heat.

I don’t know if i’ve ever seen this on a piece of gear before but the “auto scroll” feature (constantly showing currently playing pattern page) seems like it could potentially be helpful. you’d definitely want to option to turn it off, but i think it would at least help to visualize the overall scope of a pattern and more quickly hone in on certain recorded events maybe. i see that there are 2 pretty old threads asking about this “feature” here but I saw it in this RD9 video and it made me wonder how it would feel on the Rytm:

Would be really nice if the CC inputs were assigned a (high resolution) CC number.

Also good would be if the overbridge plugin could output the CV channels so we could use it with things like Ableton’s CV Tools CV IN!

Cheers!

Is the “12 Levels” function a thing yet? If this update were to happen I would jump to an AR.
