Sample decay (or full envelope). Doesn’t have to be modulatable.
Sample-only filter
Sample start/end fine tune (zoom)
External input gain
“pad locks” concept previously mentioned
2nd LFO
pad sensitivity parameter
“auto decay” is max value not min
More generally I’d love an update that more fully embraces layering as an approach to sound design. Right now the inability to quickly (without resampling) set a separate envelope on the samples really holds it back (I think). But that’s just my own inexperienced take. I’d like Elektron to release a soundpack where all of the sounds are combinations of samples and synthesis along with the features to make that workflow easy and interesting, kind of like the soundpack that emphasized the DVCO update.
I’ve been really fascinated with the results Goldbaby gets with his dirt and layers sample pack. Would be awesome if he made a RYTM soundpack with it.
I don’t think its a given that an update will be released ( only elektron knows), but in the last two years there were major updates for the AR around september/october.
Let’s hope they are later this year because theyre working on a lot of awesome upgrades, and not because there’s nothing coming…
As is, the AR is my favorite machine of all time, and I’m not complaining if nothing gets added anymore, but given the fact the DT got all these great upgrades I think the AR (not us as users, but the machine itself) deserves the same treatment from elektron.
At the very minimum the AR needs to have sample start resolution brought into line with the DT. It ridiculous to have the flagship machine trailing so far behind a machine costing half the price. Proper sidechaining functionality for the compressor is also something you’d expect to see on such a machine. I was really shocked after buying mine to discover that it didn’t have it.
Completely agree! I expected the compressor to be more useful on the AR, but its lack of channel sidechaining and especially visual feedback makes it harder to use than the one in the DT.
The samplestart thing is just downright weird to me. I’ve found workarounds using either the lfo or the velocity mod, so this amount of precision is technically possible, which makes it even stranger that elektron wouldn’t just change the resolution of the parameter in the sample screen. The only reason I could think of is that they don’t want to mess up people’s existing tracks using sample chains, but they could just easily add the option to use the old resolution as a checkbox in the settings menu.
I really hope they change this in the next update!!!
I think the number one most important addition should be a second LFO. It’d be especially amazing if we could assign both LFOs to any of the tracks’ parameters.
Agree about increasing the start and end resolution, but it’d be cool if they offered this in the current configuration as well as the DT way with length.
Velocity curve on the pads should definitely be available. On/Off is fine, but give us some options!
And of course, more synthesis types would be cool too…
Is it Wrong that I’ve become obsessed with checking about a new Rytm OS featuring the Digitakt upgrades?
Maaaaan, Elektron, PLEASE do this!
The rytm is my favorite piece of gray and the thought of it having the DT upgrade makes me drool! Pretty please?
Every single wednesday I keep expecting the front page here to have news of major updates for the Analog Rytm/Four and digitone. I figured they would have dropped by now, since we’re now in the holiday buying season. Maybe next wednesday…
