hi cool cool people ,I have an ar mk2 and I am thinking about getting an oktatrack mk 2, is it easy to link them together to hear thru headphones and transfer samples to and from both machines?im sure some people have knowledge of this set up…hope I get a reply soon ,take care people,
Best would be to stick the audio outs from ar into ot I’d say, and link them with midi. I’d say, consult the manuals if you want to know more.
What’s missing in your music? Do you know every corner of the Rytm?
gekkonier nailed it, mainly: run the audio of the AR MkII into the inputs of the OT MkII (then you get to run the AR MkII through a master filter, or delay, or lo-fi, or whatever). Transferring samples would be either by a computer and cable, or by directly sampling the OT into the AR (which is dead easy). Despite the OT being a sampler, I find that it’s not quite as intuitive to sample onto, but you could also go that direction as well. Best of luck!
Easy Peasy. And really powerful combination.
If only there was someone selling a perfect OT Mk2 with stand, backup card, manual and Elektron cover!
Oh, I am!
hello, im about to buy an oktatrack mk2 to accompany my ar mk2 and need cables to link them both together…,what cables are worthy of elektron devices?
Short mono jacks should be ok but as OT MKII has balanced inputs, AR MKII has impedance balanced outputs, TRS balanced jacks should be better.
thanks for the reply…trs jacks it is then
so I wouldn’t need midi cable?the trs is all I need to link them together ?
You definitely want (but don’t NEED per se) a midi cable if you don’t have one. This way the Octa and the rytm will be perfectly in sync with each other.
so midi in and midi out is better that the jack plugs?
Totally different purpose. Midi cables are not for audio. It is a digital musical langage for sync, notes, parameters control…
MIDI : Musical Instrument Digital Interface
so rytm main out jack plug left and right ….to A and B jack INPUT on the OT MK22…then OT output main left and right to left and right audio in on the rytm…is that correct ………no midi cale needed………thanks for your help
Yes if you want to sample OT with AR, or use its compressor.
Highly recommended to sync OT and AR (OT master), and control AR with OT (perf sequencing for ex).
Already!! I missed some versions.
Nah you only need to take the OT audio out direct to you’re mixer or audio card, unless you’re sampling back into the AR. You need to use midi if you wish to synchronise the boxes.
so whats the difference between using jack plugs and the midi connection .I want to be able to make samples on the OT2 then play them on the rytm mk 2 pads
can you do more if they are synchronised? get deeper in to it I mean
I already answered to that.
I prefer in sync musicians. If you prefer out of sync, that’s up to you.
Jacks carry the main out audio signal, which you can sample or record with. Midi is a routing system for carrying control messages between machines, generally in producing electronic music, you want both machines to be set at the same tempo, and for both sequencers to trigger at once so your drum pattern is in sync with a sampled baseline on your OT. So if you want to use both, and create samples that are looped and in time with the overall track, unless you want to try syncing manual like a DJ (not recommended) I’d do some research on basic midi setup.
It is possible with midi note messages.
I rhink it is simpler to record and play samples in AR.
