I’m putting together a live set on the Octatrack Mk1 (with some other bits). I think I have it worked out in theory, please check my logic:
I can create 1 arrangement per ‘song’
I can chain those arrangements together
As long as I choose the correct crossfader scenes on the first & last line of the arrangement, I can use the transition trick
I really want to use the arranger so I can mute and un-mute tracks on Rytm and mess with modular and really enjoy the experience. Last live thing I did I didn’t enjoy too much as I had too much to do …
How many lines can I use in an arrangement? I currently have 1 song programmed in the arranger at 32 lines (this was for a recording so might not be needed…
The chain tool has 8 slots, would it not work down the arrangements sequentially?
It’s a deep house set so I don’t want stops, a continuous blend is what I’m after, but I’ve already started using REM: Transition Time etc.
I’d make a test with 4 simple arrangements (1 pattern). IIRC you can select the next arrangement to chain, that’s all. Can’t be automated for several arrangements. Checked and confirmed.
@Bloop compare it to a song change in the same arrangement. Just select next song row (named with REM), press enter. Before the end of a song, you can create a loop, or an Halt.
Beware when you reach the end of arrangement, you have to press stop before playing it again.
If I remember right, you can also set the active A and B Scenes for patterns, in the Arranger… which might save a bit of brain work during the performance. I don’t know if you can change them after the Arranger sets them, however.
Yep, I thought that would be really useful to set the transition scenes (with some reminder lines to tell me to activate a loop and to make the transition). I can set the other scenes (in the arranger) for various other fx at different points in the song.
I use one arranger for several songs (I actually have 9 in my arranger now). The only disadvantage appears if you want to change the order of the songs, but I dont mind cause my arranger is synced with my daw, so the position in my arranger changes when I change the position in my daw sequencer, which follows the order I want.
And yes, you can change scenes once the arrangement sets them, I do It a lot in my set.
I dont know how chaining arrangements works, but It’s not an option for me, as I have more than eight songs
Possible with arrows + yes, it switches to chosen row at the end of current row.
And imho it has an advantage compared to arrangement’s CHAIN, which cue next arrangement at the end of current arrangement.
