Audio & MIDI tracks Linked

Hi there,

couple of Octatrack questions here:

1 is there any way to link Audio Track X with Midi Track X when in “plays free” mode?
Eg.: when launching Audio Track 1 also MIDI track 1 is triggered.

2 how to totally disable MIDI tracks from sending MIDI Notes?

  1. I’d love to be able to send CCs from a MIDI track without p-locking anything, treating page Ctrl2 CCs corresponding knobs like a MIDI controller.
I can only do that by setting up a MIDI trig.

thanks so much,
best

  1. Why not trig them both simultaneously? Midi mode on, trig-1 for audio-track-1, trig-9 for midi-track-1. Wide range of settings for quantizing start of plays free tracks.
  2. Don’t place any notes. If you put midi trig, you want it to be send, don’t you?
  3. I’m not sure. Midi processors resolve this and above and everything midi related.

Ask and describe more if you have detailed setup and routings.

  1. Yes I’d also use both quantized the same way and trig them at the same time.

Other method with midi loopback, you can use a midi Plays Free X with 2 notes, one for a midi Plays Free (C3-G3), one for an audio Plays Free (C1-G1).
Play that track X, quantized or not, it will play the 2 other tracks.

  1. Yes trigless trigs

  2. It works without plocks

it’s what I’m doing right now but during a live-set can be uncomfortable

Yes trigless trigs

It works without plocks

If I don’t place any note using trigless trigs it happens that the CCs value are reset to 127 at every step, I can only “use the CCs as normal MIDI controller” if I put a trig on the pattern.

Eg.: if I turn a MIDI knob let’s say CC5 on page Ctrl2 with trigless pattern,
then in Max or in my Synth I see the value costantly resetting to the initial value as I turn the knob,
like …10-127-11-127-12-127-13-127-14…60-127
I can only use the CCx by setting a trig and giving a length to the note

It definitely works without trigs, with default settings (no midi lfo).
I used it as a midi controller several times.

maybe it seems that something strange is happening in my OT at this point.
Need to figure it out.

Anyway, I can’t still figure out how to p-lock some CCs without sending out a MIDI Note.

Place a trig, Hold Function + Trig : it becomes green (Trigless Trig) and doesn’t send notes.

Other midi tracks with same CCs and midi channel?
Try with a new project or a new bank.

that’s awesome, totally missed it.
Thanks mate!

Anyway,

If I create a MIDI track without trigs and turn any of the MIDI knobs, this is the output I get
while I see the correct value on the OT Display.

MIDI%20KnobsOT1

If I put a trig, press play and remove or leave the trig
I can have the expected behavior, and my CC output doesn’t reset to this “default value”.

Any ideas?

Where does this default value come from? (61?)
Only 1 midi track?
Same behavior with a new project and only 1 midi track?

It’s the value left on the CCs as the OT has started-up,
same behavior with any project.
I’ve also tried to disable Audio CCs and Audio MIDI channels, same behavior.

I’ve also noticed that even if I’ve setup my own MIDI CC# the OT still throw out
as default numbers until I set the expected value again.
