Best way to sample YouTube with Octatrack

Hello folks! I really interested in Octatrack as a sampling device!

I wonder - how to sample my PC with OT? For example: I want to sample YouTube video cause its a good source of many sounds. So I just can’t go away from this idea.

Also I tried to sample my phone by Octatrack. I realised that jack is not properly sitting in a connector. And in many ways I like my laptop more than iOS devices.

Yesterday I came up with idea that I can buy soundcard with additional outputs which could be connected to to the OT, so I can do what I want to do.

2i4 is a good thing to make it, I think!

Any other ideas, guys?

headphone to dual Mono cable?

That’s what I do with my Digitakt (my interface has two headphone outs, so I have the second permanently hooked up to its inputs)

Jdownloader and just copy the tracks over.

There’s no need to overcomplicate things so much, rip the tracks directly and upload them to your Octa.

This is exactly what I do.

But to avoid any weird possible feedback issues, I just use my phone and have an 1/8th in. cable going to a stereo cable, plugged into my OT CD inputs at all times.

OP, it was recently brought to my attention that with some use of the Scarlett MixControl and some rerouting of the outputs, monitoring, etc., it’s possible to record your PC audio without feedback and weirdness. But I don’t know how to do this.

Focusrite Control is pretty exhaustive in it’s options.

What if I’ll try a splitter for my headphone out for this duties? At the moment I have a really poor quailty chinese splitter. I’m not even sure it could split into 2 stereo output signals xD

But I’ll test it right now!

Just buy the cable it’s a few bucks. I got one that’s like a foot long or something.

Yeah I have such cable. Also I have scarlett 2i2, but it have only 1 headphone out and 2 outputs for speakers - all occupied.

So I’m thinking of try to split headphone output… Like right now with a splitter.

Hmm, is it gonna work? Will I get a chance to sample in stereo with that kind of method? Will there be a quality loss? I’m try to find out

I don’t really think it’s necessary to overdo it with worrying about audio quality, as youtube already compresses the hell out of the video. so don’t stress about piping it out of your laptop with a super nice sound card or something. phone or laptop headphone output (or converted to one, with Apple and their stupid connectors) should suffice.
