I’m looking at the Overstayer compressors & I can’t figure out what would be better for the RYTM (Master output): VCA or FET?
Ideally, I would most likely be running the Master output into the compressor & maybe side chaining the kick into the side chain input on the compressor as well…
VCA is more flexible and does pumping fx with ease, + now comes with sidechain as standard (mine was early model that had this as upgrade), & the EQ is very useful. With behavior can also get a little grungy, but in general is cleaner than the FET. Probably the first option i would go with in your situ.
FET is hairy wooly ‘vibe’, and harder to manage levels post compression. Does pleasant things to digital synths for presence, and was good at its job when Machindedrum fed, though more for character than pumping imo. No sidechain kick option fyi.
Love the blend functions on both for over-compressing and mixing with clean signal.
Yeah the internal compressor isn’t bad, but I still would love to try a standalone compressor on rytm…
…just messed with the rytm compressor a bit… when I have “mix” on full to the right (no dry signal) this compressor sounds very nice… rounds things off a bit… excellent actually.
why have i not tried the internal compressor yet? i guess i just assumed it was similar to that of MD? never really vibed with MDs compressor… but rytm’s is nice nice nice
