In my efforts to “play” the OT as much as I can from the 16 Trig keys, I have set up a way to use the Trig Keys to both record sound and then play them back.
Set up each track to:
play a flex machine assigned to it’s own Recorder buffer
play Free
play OneShot
trigger Play by Hold
have a single Recorder trigger on the “1”
set RecLength to taste (… I really with you could set RecLength to “TrackLength” so it could be changed by Scale…)
This way, use Track Trigs buttons (1-8) to (re)rigger recording into each Track, and the Sample Playback buttons (9-16) to play the corresponding one’s back.
This works great to have a set of buttons for quickRecording, but I cannot fully realize the kind of gate stutter/re-triggering I want to do with my fingers.
I’d like the momentary/Hold action on both the recording and playback of my 8 slots.
the (Track Trig) Sequencer “Recorder” buttons to record only while I hold them down (so I don’t always get N steps)
the sample only plays back (or is heard) only while I hold that Sample Playback button down. Could this be configured with the Amp Envelope ?
I seem stuck on the specific limitation(s) that:
Setup 1Trig Mode option (One, One2, HOLD) ONLY APPLIES to the RecAB BUTTON
Track Trigger mode (One, One2, Hold) only applied so the (re)triggering of the (free-running) track Sequencer, and not the machine’s Sample Playback itself.
Am I missing something ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Interesting idea. I will try today to find answers but unfortunately for One, One 2, Hold on Rec Trigs, not sure there’s a solution.
Did you try midi tracks for recording ?
Yep. Use Release to INF if you want to play the whole sample.
That’s normal. Use Sample Trigs 9-16 for that.
For recording, if you want different lengths, why don’t you use Track + Rec AB ?
You can hold Rec AB with a toothpick and set Trig (Rec) to One2.
That way you can record as you like, play Track Trigs and Sample Trigs.
There are also Plays Free midi tracks but you have to select active track.
As I see it, you have to switch to an active track to get the One/One2/Hold recording control from the Rec AB/CD buttons.
I guess that the whole middle step of having to switch tracks is too slow for the way I want to “grab and stab” across seperate bits.
I was able to get the Playback part of what I want I DON’T want to play the whole sample) by setting Amp Envelope to
attack = 0
hold = INF (only play while holding button)
release = 0 (don’t play whole sample after keyRelease)
Now, the Track Trig buttons allow me to grab a sound at the desired key-down start point, but they don’t let me set a key-up end-point (sample length, which would be useful for when I want to reverse sample to be “timely”).
Oh well,
Thanks four your help !
No need to select tracks, if you press TRACK + REC AB, the recording starts even if the track is not active.
If you use a toothpick to hold REC AB, one track button is enough (not for Hold, ok for One2, from what I tried).
I’m thinking about a mod with a switch to latch FUNCTION and REC AB.
Indeed.
This is still slowed down by having to select/activate a track.
I developed my method so that I could sample onto multiple tracks directly, even simultaneously.
I set up different tracks to pay back differently (pitch, fx, etc), and it’s quick and dirty to permute a sound into different forms.
That’'s why I was hoping to be able to use Hold mode on Track Trigs to set recording END, so I could touch-capture various start/end versions of the same melody/vocals onto different slots.
I see how pinning down the RecAB button would make the TrackSeleect buttons into TrackRecorders,
but I may not want to commit to that.
My method is something that can be limited to one Bank or Part, so the OT can do other tasks at other times.
I hadn’t considered how this may be solved with MIDI.
Do the succession of MIDI note messages (on- and off) that are associated with each track’s recorder get affected by Recorder being set to One, One2, or Hold
For instance, if I set Track 1’s recorder to Hold mode, then send the MIDI note #60ON, does it wait until MIDI note #60OFF to stop recording ?
I can’t test this myself (yet) as I don’t have a MIDI controller yet.
By the way, what MIDI controller are you using ?
Don’t know if this will help you but:
If you don’t have a recorder trig and use hold, the sample will be as long as track+input/midi is held as long as it’s not longer than rlen, if there is a recorder trig the sample will last for rlen steps and consist of silence for the steps where track+input/midi isn’t held…
You can set individual settings One2/Hold for each track, audio sources too.
Each track has a midi channel. On the controller, you have to set 8 notes C4 (60=Combo Rec) with the 8 corresponding midi channels.
Note On/Off works for Hold.
