Copy/Paste with Patterns & Parts

Hi, I’m trying to create track variations for a song I’m working on using different versions of the same kind of sample on different parts. For example:

Track 1: Kick Drum Pattern 1 (Part 1) / Kick Drum Pattern 2 (Part 2) etc
Track 2: Rest of drums All (Part 1) / Rest of Drums (Just Hats (Part 2)
Track 3: Bassline 1 (Part 1) / Bassline 2 (Part2) etc.

I’m recording a patterns with these tracks, saving my Part (1), copying the pattern, Changing to Part (2), Pasting Pattern, Switchin to recording buffer from sample, recording new drums or bass or whatever, saving the sample to a new slot, then selecting that slot.

In the process of pasting the pattern from Part 2 to Part 3, it seems to work, but then all of a sudden part 2 is selected again! I never went back to 2 from 3, but it seems pasting the paterns from part 2 is bringing me back to part 2 somehow.

Anyone know what’s up here? AM I understanfing parts correctly? My intention is to set this up on all tracks with pattern 1, then jam on the scenes and fader, then copy to a new bank and rearrange everything. Suggestions?

Edit 1: Yes, I just tried it again, and pasting a pattern in a new part jumps me back to the old pattern automatically and nothing is pasted into the pattern. What’s going on? Are patterns static between parts and I just need to turn it on somewhere?

Edit 2: I just read somewhere I need to paste the pattern and the part, is this correct?

Edit 3: Or am I not understanding how patterns and parts interact? Do I need to use a different pattern for these different drum types and basslines, and then it will change parts automatically when I change patterns because they are linked?

Edit 4: Ok here I am alone in a freaking forum talking to my own post! I’m truly a laughable sight.

So now I think I see … I copied the Part to a new part and the pattern played normally, it’s not the pattern I need to copy, I should be copying the part, and then changing the samples and just leaving the pattern alone. But my question then is this … why does pasting the pattern switch parts around?

Patterns and Parts are separate entities.

The only connection between them is that the Pattern has a reference to the Part.

Thanks, so if I paste a pattern into a new part, I will actually get jumped back to the previous part that was active when I pasted the pattern? So COPY PATTERN in PART 1 , then switch to Part 2, PASTE PATTERN, and press lay, and part 1 will play because that was the part active when I copied that pattern?

Hi, thanks, got it, appreciate the help. But the “each pattern references a part” section, currently I have one pattern and 4 parts, where does the pattern referencing the part come into play?

When you select a part, that pattern now uses that part. That’s all.
Edit; You can select one of the four parts on any of the 16 patterns in a bank. The parts that’s selected is used on that pattern.
