There is something special with these, more often than not, they make something special.
The one youā€™ve just posted is a good example of this.
Simple but terribly evocative.

Same setup as my previous post except for the sampled Microfreak replaced here by samples of the 0 Coast from an old jam.
A lot of experiments to do before finding the good formula but i have a nice stock of bleep sessions that will be useful.

Added Arturiaā€™s Tape Mello-Fi, because why not ?

Thanks so much for the feedback, I love Sigur Ros, so Iā€™m well chuffed with that comparison.

I agree that adding a counter melody would be nice, and I think I will keep it as an end section and try to build something towards it. Maybe add a few synth and guitar layers to really make it sound massive at its conclusion.

Just a small query about the gonk. Iā€™m assuming you mean a massive gonk, and not a more reserved one?

Cheers dude. I think that is the direction I will go with this one, build towards this section.

Got to say Iā€™m blown away by the stuff people are posting in here, thereā€™s some serious talent about these days. :+1:

As someone who is learning play guitar at the moment, I hope one day to be able to do something like this. Just plug into a nice amp and zone out. The fingers just somehow knowing where to go.

Beautiful stuff.

First off, congrats on deciding to learn guitar!

Something to consider would be to either get a looper pedal or have a way to record any idea as you come up with them and learn how to add a few notes on top (play along). It also helps you hear what you need to work on.

EDIT: Itā€™s unfortunate how quickly you forget how you did something neat. Especially if itā€™s by accident. I record with my phone sometimes if Iā€™m on my acoustic or on my amp away from my computer.

This will allow you to jam with yourself but also find that you donā€™t need much to go far. Ex: this little recording is two 3 note chords and probably 6 notes on a single string for the accompanying ā€œsoloā€.

Random thoughts about amp sims (not required reading at all)

After many yearsā€¦ the modern setup has reignited my passion of exploring the fretboard and learning new scales/modes/etc.

Guitar > Audio Interface > DAW > AMP SIM

No more super loud amps to get good tone :upside_down_face:

I think itā€™s mostly the convenience. Next to a screen so you can look things up, no learning the science of micā€™ing an amp and figuring out what volume is required to capture what you are hearing in the room.

Still like playing with an amp so nothing wrong with that! Itā€™s just nice to have all ideas recorded. Looper pedals have come far, I just went another route.

One idea (chord progression)/melody/scale/mode a week/month. It doesnā€™t have to be an entire scale/song. Just something you can memorize. Youā€™ll be surprised how big of a foundation youā€™ll have before long!

Thank you, yes its about letting go of expectations, time is limited you have nothing to loose and no agenda apart from getting to sleep soon!
