Seen a few products advertised recently (plastered everywhere) for Flare Audio Calmers… youtube reviews seem to suggest they don’t work for helping Tinnitus.
I don’t think my tinnitus is that bad but I do think that I can hear something externally thats very high pitched which I can’t isolate.
Was wondering if anyone here knows of an ear plug that would work in reducing high pitched noises so that I can work out if it is indeed an external noise and not Tinnitus getting worse (would be tad surprised as I dont use in-ear and monitor at very low level these days)…
Hi!
I had some tinnitus problems some years ago. I go to a lot of concerts (1 to 5 times a week), and started to have quite a lot of tinnitus.
Then I bought some Alpine earplug (15€), keep them with me all the time (with my keys), and use them every time I go to listen to live music. Since then my hearing fatigue has been drastically reduced. These may not be the best earplug available, but at least I am not afraid to lose them and they do a pretty good job. However I wouldn’t use them in production work. I would instead use an EQ to reduce the high frequencies for long work sessions.
Thanks for bringing this topic on this forum, I think it is very important to talk about this!
Ive used the calmers.
While I don’t have tinnitus, I do find the calmers useful for playing drums. They seem to attenuate high frequencies, not buy much, but enough to mean I can play my full kit without regular earplugs.
That is impressive.
Some people with tinnitus say the calmers work. I say its worth a shot.
I got given mine as I have other issues with hearing, the calmers seem to help.
Sometimes I work in high noise enviroment and therefore my company let manfacture a custom-made otoplastic according to my ear. I had the choice for the filter and implemented a linear one.
If you have problems with high frequencies you can easily fit another filter with a different characteristic.
