Eerie "Hollow" Sounding FM Bells

hey all,
i broke my leg pretty badly the other day so i’m stuck home bored and screwing with my MnM.

kind of have a mind to mess around make a track out of all FM machines on both the MnM and MD cos even though i think they sound cool they’re the machines I’ve probably used the least so far.

i’m mostly gonna twiddle knobs and see what i come up with but that said if anyone could give me a quick rundown or some tips about how to conjure a hollow, spooky, low-frequency 80s horror movie metallic bell type sound with the MnM i think running something like that through my space echo would be a cool place to start.

Had not previously had an interest in this, but I do now! It would be great if someone could set us off in the right direction.

Being a horror film fanatic I’m pretty certain I know the sound you’re talking about, but do you have an example of what exactly you have in mind?

offhand i can’t think of exactly what soundtrack i’m thinking of but if you think you know what im talking about then you probably do… i’ve been stuck at home with a busted leg pretty much doing nothing but watching my way through a huge pile of 80’s VHS horror movies for a couple days now so between that and the painkillers they’re all starting to blur.

in the pile immediately in front of me:
Psychomania
Halloween III
The Keep
Carnosaur
Pumpkinhead
and a tape with like 20 episodes of that leonard nimoy show “in search of” on it… that show had friggin great background music haha.

i made some cool nauseously looping FM industrial blurt earlier that kind of sounds like SPK/ Maurizio Bianchi but anyone who feels like sharing formulas for spooky sounds for me to mad-science around with would be much apprecated… i’m looking at at least a week before i’m even supposed to be up and around on crutches.

Halloween III was actually what I was thinking of at first, although I’m a big giallo fan so some of those sounds came to mind as well. I’ll see what I can turn out in the next few days.

Hope you feel better soon. That sounds awful. :(.
