Elektron Octatrack vs E-mu Ultra

I know its different engines, but what should be the reason to choose one over the other?

I sold my E4 Platinum and kept my Octatrack. But I still miss the E4 sometimes.

The E4 obvs has more (MUCH MORE) polyphony and can map keys and velocities, etc. It also has more modulation power (24 cords I think it was? that’s a big modulation matrix). Its auto-correlation thing to loop samples was totally amazing, it looped even complex modulated sounds very well. And my favorite thing about the E4 was the filters and FX (especially with RFX card). They sounded so good. OT’s filter is good, and the dark reverb does its thing well, but the other FX are pretty weak, atmo. E4 had tons of different FX options with multi-tap delays and the best phaser I’ve ever heard (digi or otherwise), etc. The routing of the FX was also super flexible, and as we know the OT is not very flexible about that.

But, the OT is the one I kept. The real-time manipulation of sounds is just unparalleled. Better for performance, better for writing. If I had unlimited space, I’d have kept both and just used the E4 as a giant FX processor. But I don’t, so I didn’t.

Interesting, thanks for the answer
