I don’t know if the price has been mentioned in this thread yet, but I just received a Sweetwater catalog in the mail, and the Perkons is listed at $1999.
A new and better version… They pulled me right back in.
Only good thing is that now I have an excuse not to buy the Syntrx, that have been on my mind the last couple of days.
Had it preordered, but not entirely unhappy by this (they’ve got time to improve the interface to go along with the necessary redesign, more time for me to work with the drums I’ve got.)
Curious what has changed sound-wise, sounds like they went with a different microcontroller due to supply issues.
It’s all hi-hats and bongos now.
4 cow bells? But now they’re adding a 5th. Because, you know…
Doesn’t sound like anything changed or needs changing soundwise,
Unfortunately our plans were affected by unforeseen circumstances coming from suppliers - we had ordered micro-controllers for Pērkons HD-01 early in 2021 with a promise to have them delivered in September, the delivery date kept pushed and pushed ahead up to the point of them becoming available only in late 2022. We are currently reworking the PCB to function with other parts that are available to us sooner. You can be sure - no compromises are being made.
Yeah, doesn’t necessarily sound like it. They said they were still tweaking the parts of the sound engine at Superbooth, though.
That’s my read as well. ICs generally come in multiple different packages. If DIP / through-hole packages are offered, often they are available with a variable number of pins. SMD parts can come in a wide array of packages, each suited for a particular use.
EXAMPLE: If PERKONS was designed with a 16-pin DIP in mind, but only SMD BGA is available, then it should only be a matter of redesigning a small portion of the PCB to handle the much smaller BGA part. Assuming that whoever is doing the assembly can handle BGA parts.
Changing to a different microcontroller entirely would require major changes - new code and likely new glue logic on the PCB. A much bigger task that wouldn’t be taken on lightly.
Ohh boy, I think I´m heading for the pre order but…!
Do I need more drum machines…?
Do I have 2000 € under the bed or somewhere…?
January tour is already getting cancellations…!
Will I be making any money next year…?
Do I even like the sound of the Perkons…?!..
And now they found some new knobs with silkscren text underneath…! and trigger subdivisions, new subdivisions…! It´s a better version that the superbooth version, and better than the first version with the joystick! That´s clear
I´m gonna get this and skip the Syntax, Yes…But what about the Udo Super6 desktop, it´s so sexy in Star Wars colors. Do I need this or that at all. Maybe I should just finish my live set with the OT and AR and play the forest in the south of Germany…
hmm but the live set would be better with the better version of the Perkons, and if I ad the Udo on top it´s gonna be amazing…No no no it´s out of the question…!
Stick to the live set and then maybe the Perkons on a pre order, yes pre order I´m gonna do it. … -…!. …
I only think the Perkons can answer your questions…
Yes you might be right, thanks for the support though buddy
It’s the first time I see the Perkons listed at my local store (Order Your Unit Now! status). It seems like a good news for those who wants to buy this unit.
Haven’t seen any other updates on the internets, I don’t know if I’d take that as meaningful. Certainly not bad
The interview 2 weeks ago with Girts from Erica Synths, he mentions that units will be ready by the end of February. In the same interview he mentions that he is an overly optimistic guy
One lovely quote from that Girts interview was ‘if you have a hobby which facilitates your creativity, it is the best investment you can imagine’.
Until they show the new video of the new unit as they promised I would not hold my breath.
