I am using my Rytm in conjunction with novation summit. I have an expression pedal going into the summit and from previous use I have some expression config on my active kit on my rytm …however no expression pedal is connected to the Rytm. I am finding that activating the pedal connecting to my summit is still affecting the rytm … which is a real surprise. The summit is connected to the Rytm via midi and vice versa (for clock) … could it be that the expression data is getting converted to midi and passed onwards to the rytm somehow?
Well, the expression config itself is bound to the physical input(s) on the Rytm. So there is no way this could be triggered via midi.
I would check with a MIDI monitor what exactly gets sent from the Summit when you press the expression pedal (which CCs on which channels) to clarify the situation.
It is def somehow passing expression info to midi and onwards to rytm. I disconnected the midi out from summit to rytm and it stopped affecting the rytm. Diving into the summit midi settings there are several options but changing stuff there didn’t have an effect …I’ve sent a ticket to Novation support. let’s see! thanks for your help
It is fairly normal for keyboards to transmit expression pedal data via MIDI out, same as they do for note, pitch-bend and modulation wheel data.
Most keyboards allow you to restrict the MIDI data they transmit, which is normally found under global settings.
