Gear recommendation

Looking for a hardware recommendation. I am currently running a squarp pyramid “to sequence a moog grandmother and microkorg” as well as a syntakt for drums (following clock from pyramid. What i need is a sampler that has a minimum of 2 inputs for the microkorg and grandmother that has the ability to record samples of the sequences i create then as simply and fast as possible play them back in real time following the clock of the pyramid. I want to be able to create multiple layers of different synth sounds from the same synth. The 1010 blackbox looks like it would fit the bill perfectly if it just had more than 1 input. So im left with the mpc line, the octatrack, or maybe some type of mixer that would perform these functions. Looking for feedback on the immediacy of sample and playback on said pieces of gear as well as any recommendations for something else that may be a better solution

if you don’t need any effects or mangling opportunities for the sequences you want to capture perhaps a looper is more relevant to your needs.

the electroharmonix 45000 or 95000 could be ideal and are as tight and instantaneous as an overdraft charge.

You don’t especially need several inputs if you have a mixer with sub routing you can use to record selected source.

I use the Octatrack, it does the job and much more. I used RC 505 looper too. RC 505 MKII has several stereo inputs, 5 tracks and great routing options.

The 1010 Black seems interesting too.

I mean… it could be just me, but sounds a little like an OT?

Possibly that Roland looper station?

edit: Ah, @sezare56 beat me to the punch :stuck_out_tongue:

Sure. Anyway if you can’t record a loop after 3 weeks, it’s not for you, send it back !

It is very logical, once you understood. :content:

which beat machine has the simplest looper?

Probably the RC 505 mk2 is the simplest looper, if you wanna call it a beat machine.

The OT may be a bother to learn, but it really does what is advertises. You can set up some layers of loops without too much headache. I don’t know what the exact criteria for immediacy is, but that’s the gear I would reach for if I was in OP’s shoes.

One particular thing with OT is that recording can be triggered independently from playback (with Flex machines). On regular loopers, recording and playback are linked. It is also possible to have this behavior with OT Pickups machines, which I dislike. Simple as hell :

The MKII seems more complicated than MKI, many options.

I would say, just a laptop with ableton live lite edition, Syntakt as overbridge device.
I don’t know if syntakt is able to process input and send it to overbridge, I guess because DT/DN are able to do it. But for quickly recording different loop…
And lite edition is free for 8 track IIRC.
Yes it’s a computer based.

But if computer is an issue, would go directly to OT here.

A mixer and Blackbox combo looks like the most immediate and easy to use solution. Octatrack and MPC will carry additional overhead of features unless you would like to explore them further.

My 1st sampler ! :content:

Depends on your needs imho. It can be simple with simple needs ! If you want to master every function, it can be long…

Hey, I’m just a dumb cat with simple needs.
