Genesis P-orridge (Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV)

Don’t normally go for this type of thing but just found out that Gen has died today after a long battle with leukaemia. S/he played a huge role in early electronic and industrial music with TG which spawned Chris and Cosey not to mention Psychic TV. I always followed with interest anything they where involved in, and the world is a less interesting place without them…It’s all getting a bit grim out there, but one thing I always loved about Gen and TG was their sense of humour which could often get lost in the harshness of their overall sound and image…like the album 20 jazz funk greats…a proto harsh noise album, made with a twee title and matching album sleeve designed to end up in bargain bin sales and bought by dumb consumers…the photo shoot was on a Suicide hotspot called beachy head …

Damn. Big fan of his. Have you heard him on the albums “Furnace” and “The Eyes of Stanley Pain” by Download? Some groundbreaking electronic music with Genesis doing vocals on some tracks.

TG and Psychic TV are two of the biggest inspirations for me getting into making music in the first place.

I’ll definitely have a drink tonight and try and get through Hamburger Lady without feeling a bit sick.

Got some records to listen to right now.
I heard Supermale on the radio so long ago, and took the next day off school to go buy the 12”

I recognize 20s influence of the zeitgeist but for me D.O.A. is their finest moment.
