Goodbye Rytm

Hello Octatrack!

2nd session on my new Octatrack and I really can’t see what I’m going to use the Rytm for.
This beast does everything, absolutely loving the possibilities and work flow. To be honest I think I will be using ableton to feed my OT with beats and the mastered stems from my compositions, Ive already taken one of my finished tracks to a whole new level.
The rytm just isn’t doing it for me at all, its a nice drum machine but it really doesn’t sound better than taking my mastered drum beats and running them through the OT and I can work a lot faster using Push and my custom drum racks.
Well nice to have both though lol

Octatrack is still best of all for me. But it is cool to feed OT with A4 or Rytm or monomachine… Well i own only OT. And feeding it with any sound source it never disappoints.

That really isn’t that surprising considering you’re into software and samplers.

Yeah I’ve been finding that I was using samples more than the actual synth engines on the AR and ideally I just want one box which can also sequence my synths. Gonna keep the Rytm for a bit yet though and see if I can find a satisfying work flow. Octatrack is definitely the desert island box right now

After a couple years on the OT, I just picked up a Rytm. I’ll never get rid of the OT though. Hands down, Elektron’s most versatile machine.

And welcome Deaf Eric :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

my first elektron machine was an OT and it is still my favorite, however, I do everything OTB and need layers and tracks and I overran the OT pretty quickly…you would have to pry the OT away from me but I also wouldn’t give up my AR or A4 either…or my sub37, or my minitaur…or…or…or…(the list goes on)

the AR does drum duty for me, plain and simple…even if I wanted to just use just the OT for that I couldn’t because I use all the tracks for other things

Thanks Shoki!
Yeah I’m gonna keep the Rytm for now till I’m 100% sure I can perform my full tracks without a dedicated drum machine

Tip: Check out the mighty Nord Drum 2, it could be all you need with the OT :imp:

I find this too. Drums are mainly samples with a bit of analog for enhancement. I am struggling to find a good reason to keep it. The synth engine is just so basic and inflexible. I will give Elektron another 6 months to make the analog side more useful otherwise it’s probably going to go.

Interesting thread! I’m thinking of picking up an Octatrack before the sale ends, to complement my Rytm. I think between them, they’d be all I need, with the Rytm playing into the Octatrack live. Playing the Octatrack into the Rytm might be interesting too. I reckon there’s a strong case for having both if you can. I’m trying to go all-hardware (beyond mixing and mastering) so it makes sense to use both…

don’t let this thread deter you, like I said in my previous post, the OT alone simply isn’t enough for me since I do everything OTB…the AR does drum duties for me and that’s it (be it analog drums or samples)…I have lots of other things in the mix but I could likely get away with just the trinity no problem (OT/AR/A4).

I’ll counter sign this. Seems like I am (was?) alwasy fighting the 8 track limitation on the OT, especially when you start utilising a couple of thru mahines, a track for the crossfader trick, and a master track… 8 was just not enough.

And a second OT is not the promised land you would hope.

Hey Rusty. did you end up getting a RYTM during the sales? AWave have some now, I ended up grabbing one, we’ve been bonding for the last few days and it feels worth the $1700 to me.

For a box with such an awesome interface it is a shame that the rytm synth engine is so boring. Hoping Elektron spice it up soon. Or better yet, bring the Rytm interface and sequencer to the Machinedrum.

I wouldn’t want a second one…I wouldn’t mind more tracks in a single unit but I don’t want another piece of hardware to do it.
