Hardware Sampler to compliment A4

Monophonic as in not polyphonic :+1: But yes stereo.

:flushed: sorry, not enough sleep lately. Funny though the wording overlap there though.

I keep going back and forth on the MPC One/Live line. On one hand, I like that it’s so deep and versatile, on the other hand, it basically just feels like a DAW in a box with an iPad attached to it. The workflow seems to be basically a touchscreen computer with physical controls. It also looks like there’s SO much it can do that it gets overwhelming. I’ve watched a ton of videos on it and I still can’t decide if I want to take a risk on it.

Something simple to use with a bunch of SD storage is the 1010music Blackbox. I think you are on the right track here. Nothing fancy mangling wise, but that’s not what it is for. Audio quality is top notch. Granular if you need it. 16 “tracks/pads” and they can be polyphonic (max 24 voices).

I would go ask in the blackbox thread. A bunch of people use it at the limit when it comes to CC and automation.

I use mine a lot to record A4/DN sounds.

Don’t get a sampler get a dfam!!!. A4 and dfam are lush together… sequence the dfam with the a4 and send dfam back into the a4 for the effects and mixing with the other 4 a4 tracks…

I do understand you want a sampler… I would say the digitakt because you can sequence song mode from the a4

I was in that exact same mental place with it, and I very nearly sold mine… I definitely think the ease of starter accessibility with these MPC’s can make you think you know it too fast and make you make that judgement.

Before you get to know it, and get to know the workflow/muscle memory shortcuts, you CAN do a ton just using the touchscreen.

When you get to know it you use the touchscreen less and less, and don’t notice it.
The only time I notice it now is when I have to name things (samples, programs, projects, etc)… but I could say the same with my Elektron and Roland devices… I actually like the Elektron naming, makes me feel fast/smarter than I am (:joy:), whereas the MC707 is a pain in the ass.

The MPC is DEEP, but it’s like most good gear, you can use 10-20% of its capabilities to get your work 100% done.

Also, it’s not often new gear seems like a cheap no-brainer, but the current MPC One price is as close as I think I’ve ever seen…

Awesome to hear. I was eyeing the MPC One. It can host audio interfaces now, right? So I could get more than the 2 IO if I wanted?

I keep eyeing the 1010blackbox for that purpose. I have an AK and it’ll fit perfectly on the right side space. Actually it’s more like the 1010 is eyeing me, I swear it winked at me once.

That’s right. It works with USB class compliant interfaces and can give you up to 32 I/O.

I’ve been using mine with my Allen & Heath Xone 96… one USB lead connecting them and I have 6 stereo buss groups hitting the mixer… it’s great.

That’s fantastic. I’m wondering if it would fill my need between not using a mouse/keyboard but still having the depth and flexibility of the computer DAW. Your comment about the hardware controls becoming intuitive makes me feel a bit better about it.
