Yes, that is a good swap.
Hey Dude. This looks great. I started out with this same intellijel skiff and have really enjoyed it. Esp when paired with my DT or DN or really anything that can act as a drum machine. My 2 cents:
If you are looking for an alternative to the Midi 1U ALM Busy Circuits makes a really great MIDI to CV convertor called mmMIDI. It only does pitch and gate but it comes with 2 channels (great with the DT) and it has a velocity out on each channel which is basically like having two more modulation sources (you can never have enough modulation)
I have had my eye on a Lapusus O ever since i got into modular so if you want to get that iām not stopping you but i bought a quadratt 1U just to have an attenuation module and holy shit do i use that thing for like, everything. Attenuation, Attenuverter, offset, audio mixer. Itās great i have it right in the middle of my 1u rack and iāll prob never get rid of it.
Donāt get a Maths (j/k get a Maths if you want to but donāt feel like you have to)
Oh and just looking at what you posted from modular grid you might have a problem with whatever module is 45 mm deep. At least i did with some 2HP stuff. The skiff I believe is exactly 45 mm and you need room for the the power headers to plug into the module.
Welcome dude hope you got some money saved up!!!
Ha ha just saw your latest update and you do have a Quadratt in there soā¦ yeah.
+1 for pamās; once i found my favorite functions i sold it for dedicated modules (euclidean circles, etc)
monome crow is a scriptable 2hp modulation and audio source that was a no brainer for my first system. no coding experience necessary
+1 for tiptop stackable cables as passive mults
1u is a gimmick (esp from intellijel), but hey whatever
believe it or not my system is 20hp of twin uPeaks (one attenuverter expander) + crow + hpo; ive been very happy with it for over a year while circles is parked. all this to reiterate that your system is yours and only you can craft the instrument itself
as mentioned already, using audio as cv and cv as audio is kind of the tits, and obviously you donāt have to follow the vco vca vcf route unless you want to
I just woke up to read more info from you all guys but to be honest I am lost
I do understand the need for VCAs now though.
I also appreciate the options and opinions being given in terms of modules and ways of doing things.
Thing is I am only stepping in the world of modular and too many options will probably have me facing (modular) gear paralysis.
What I am after is a simple setup with 1 solid voice to start.
I also understand the Intellijel palette has its faults (from what I am reading the 1U raw being sort of a gimmick) but it is an option that appeals to me as it is self contained (mults, AC adaptor, stereo out, USB).
I might have to rethink it all as in: what is absolutely necessary to have that one voice and filter set up with a minimum of modulation options.
How about a starter synth with noodle support?
I know some of you might hate it, but a pits sv-1 or perhaps a neutron could give what you search for and goes easy on your moneys. And then build from thereā¦
Thanks @gerkinear for the advice.
I am actually ānoodlingā with digitakt going to a MIDI to CV converter to DFAM and the thru port of the MIDI to CV converter to a Subharmonicon.
Having lots of fun with it.
Though from what I have experienceced and from what I am after, the more I ponder/think about it, the mere I am in need of an OSC with guts
As I said, I might just rethink my whole workflow and process: maybe what could be a good starter idea in this regard would be a smaller skiff with 1 voice if that voice can be sequenced by the DT.
I feel the modular community is very open and inclusive. Itās about sharing experiences. We could only dream this being true for society as a whole.
Take it slow, no need to rushā¦in fact itās better that you donāt. If you are set on the voice and filter, put them in your ModularGrid case and mind map what more you want; play with VCV; ask questions here. 62HP is, again, already pretty small imo. Going even smaller might help you now with choice paralysis, but will paralyze you later in expanding.
What do you want the modular to do? How do you want it to sound? Use these types of questions to sus out what modules will help you get thereā¦
I am pretty set here with Polaris Filter and the Manis Iteritas OSC
Ok cool. Thatās a better start than most people. Quadrax is a good source for modulation; Veils is a solid choice for VCA. Maybe get the case and those and then see what you want / need? Gear porn creates false ideas; you donāt have to fill a case
Donāt be afraid to just get started. Advice is great, but always flawed by the fact, that itās given by someone, who is not you. Just get started, and then buy and sell your way to your instrument.
I think I am just going to start it that way.
Manis Iteritas
Polaris
Quadrax
Veils 2020
What would then be the BASIC stuff required (1U) in terms of MIDI?
Sounds good. Those are solid basics to start.
I donāt know enough about 1U to help. Sorry.
My question was actually not well put.
It should have read: is there anything else I need to communicate between DT and the modular?
I truly think this is where I am atā¦
From just looking at the midi 1U module you have in your case, it doesnāt seem you need anything else.
Imma go just a little bit against my own advice and recommend again a Quadratt (or other attenuator/polarizer) Fine tuning your CV control is what itās all about. None of your modules have on-board attenuation (afaict)
