HOLOGRAVE 3D SAMPLE PACK: 66 Original Analog/Digital Hybrid Drum and Synth Sounds

66 Original Analog/Digital Hybrid Drum and Synth Sounds made by me!

This is my second sample pack and first ‘for sale’ sample pack. It is a $7 Collection of One-Shot AR Samples and AR-Processed Microfreak samples.

These samples are from the intro track of my recently released EP “Planetarium+ (Part 2)”, but they are for you to use as you see fit!

From the wordy Gumroad Description on the purchase page linked above:

What You Get!

In this sound pack you get 66 Analog/Hybrid Drum and Synth sounds recorded at 48khz and 24-bits post-track level but before the mixer/master saturation/compression stage.

Hybrid Synth

The Pads and Stabs in this sound pack were created on the Arturia Microfreak, a Hybrid synthesizer with four versatile Digital Oscillators, an analog filter, an analog VCA, and an extremely flexible modulation matrix.

These Sounds were then sampled into the Elektron Analog Rytm MK2, an powerful and comprehensive 8 Voice Analog Drum Machine and Digital Sampler, where they were sequenced alongside the Rytm’s Hybrid Drums.

About The Hybrid Drums

What makes these drums “Hybrid” is their uniquely part-analog/part-digital signal path. In the Rytm’s architecture the analog engines can be made to share their overdrives, distortions, and VCAs with digital samples. The digital sample portion if the sound is added to the analog signal path before the overdrive. This means that on as many of the 8 tracks as you like, you have the option to place a customizable analog drum synth OR sample OR both!

The combined sounds are saturated/driven by the overdrive circuit into into the analog filter before being gain-staged with an analog amplifier. The final output of all 8 tracks is then run through a master saturator followed by an analog parallel compressor with a side-chain filter.

All of this is done in the analog domain and only made digital again upon being recorded into a DAW either from any of the 8 tracks individually (before the 8-track mixing stage), after the mixing stage as a 2 -track Stereo Recording (pre- or post- distortion and compression/with or without the master reverb and delay which can be inserted pre- or post- distortion and compression.), or all of the above simultaneously to seperate tracks in your DAW.

This entire process can be digitally or manually controlled; sequenced or performed.

NOTE: (the samples in this pack have been digitally recorded before the 8 track mixing stage)

Final Thoughts

Many of the sounds of HOLOGRAVE 3D take advantage of this hybrid feature in a variety of ways without sacrificing the subtlety necessary to be used traditionally (Mostly…)

Digital static waveforms are looped at low-frequencies and glued to analog FM kicks for extra subharmonic dirt as they hit distortion circuits. The filters are bombarded by ring modulated kick drums . Toms and colored noise generators are pitched down and made to push your compressors, and Resonant swept “liquid” Cowbells are… well… also there! And they sound ace .

@AdamJay Thank you and heck yeah that would be so cool! If you end up doing it I’d love to listen to and share whatever you make!

Isn’t the 48Khz format a bummer for OT since it can read only until 44Khz?

The Octatrack can play 48khz! It’s a toggle-able option in the settings but I can’t remember where off the top of my head. Maybe pattern or project settings? It’s wherever you would tell the octatrack how much RAM to leave available for flex tracks.

That being said I did wonder if people would prefer these at 44khz, so this has brought clarity :joy: I’ll add a 44khz folder this week and check back in when it’s up.

Appreciate the input, thank you!

From page 27 of the OT manual.

If you play 48Khz on OT, the speed and pitch will not respect the original.

Ah, you’re right I’m thinking about the bit depth. Now worries though, will update this soon!

Updated this pack to support 44khz as well as 48khz. 44khz is also available at 16-bit or 24-bit for a total of 3 sample format!

Here’s the promo video btw :video_camera:
