How to sync up A4 with Machinedrum and Ableton

Hi guys. I want to have an all hardware jam with my A4 and Machinedrum. I made the A4 the main, send a midi out to the machinedrum midi in, and record all the audio synced up in Ableton.

For some reason, none of this works. The A4 isn’t sending anything to the machinedrum, so when I press play on the A4 the machinedrum doesn’t start. Also I can’t get anything to perfectly sync up with ableton.

I’m pretty much a noob to this. How do I sync up my A4 with my Machinedrum and Ableton to have a nice jam?

a4 master, midi out (enable midi out usb + midi in menu) on MD in sync menu enable sync, transport receive

also transport send out in a4 ON

then plug usb into a4, connect with ableton, in ableton to the same midi mess on and sync stuff…

try out several different combinations, eventually you will get lucky…

Thanks TrabanT, you’re a huge help. I eventually got it to work. Turned out that I had to factory reset the MD. For some reason there was a big offset everytime the A4 or Ableton started the MD.

I’ve got it set up this way now (for anyone with the same question)

Ableton (Master)
A4 (Slave to Ableton), receives and sends transport + clock data. Also set to receive notes from ableton.
Machinedrum (Connected to A4 with midi cable. Midi in on MD, Midi out on A4). Set to only receive data.

This works perfectly. Thanks for your help brother!
