Can we have a function to mute posts, where users declare they are muting the thread…?
Just. Do. It.
I used to work in the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity department at my local University.
It wasn’t called that when I started there, I think it was called student support and disability services or something, you know, something that advertised what we did, rather than what we thought.
Anyway, the place was mostly just like anywhere else, professional individuals providing tailored support for individuals who needed it. Still is. All the silly words are just to keep middle management happy and safe in their jobs.
Words on their own are powerless, it’s how they’re used and who by that matters.
Just because there’s the usual Tipper Gore crowd using words like diversity and inclusion, doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with actual diversity or inclusion.
Well its true so what gives? Oh wait the usual flag. I was wondering like you.
deleted (and I didn’t flag you)
I didn’t see that you were responding to the point Fin made above. Sorry.
I skipped a lot of this so i am not up on the finer points of this and all the constellation threads, so forgive me a bit. out of genuine curiosity the folks who feel most disappointed by the Syntakt release i want to ask a few questions. this might be more productive than general questions about tone & discussion taboos, etc.
- what gear do you have? total $$$?
- how much of it do you regularly play?
- how many hours per week are you playing?
- are you playing solo or with others? do you have friends you talk to about gear in person?
- are you a hobby or professional musician? traveling or local to where you live?
personally, i don’t care too much about the things that are not included on the syntakt. i would love one but i don’t have a ton of money for gear or time to dive into something new. I also play as a hobby musician with some friends and mostly play bass or guitar in bands. i have some decent gear - more than lots of people out there, but way less than lots of people here. i think that’s something to reflect on in this situation. anyway, i still love it here, still have fond memories of people not tolerating a bigoted poster.
I actually haven’t seen that one and was posting during my morning coffee, will watch the clip you posted on my lunch break!
for real! also, what’s up with people announcing that they are out and muting a thread because it’s all dumb and pointless and all but then they STILL keep keep keep coming back for more? … aiaiai.
As someone who went through college in engineering and computer science, nerds can be as conniving and back stabbing as anyone. Especially the quite ones.
From what I have noticed, the biggest use of flags is not for posts with hate messages or other such problems. It is used against people that express an opinion that draws the attention of the Flag Mafia. They can flag a post into hiding withing minutes. I noticed that in the Mutable Instruments thread. I don’t know if it is a group of people doing it or one person with a stack off accounts, but they were literally flagging posts within minutes.
Thing is, if I see a post that is hidden and flagged, I cannot help but look.
Flags are good, if they’re used right.
There’s a category of nonsense that isn’t offensive, but that degrades the experience of using the forum so much that it should be deleted with extreme prejudice. That’s the tedious, back-and-forth meta-dialogue between posters about who flagged who and who started the argument and who’s the real snowflake here and et cetera.
It is boring. So boring. That’s what kills forums. Don’t flag comments for being controversial, flag them for being boring and pointless. And if someone responds to your spicy but articulate comment with a reply that’s obviously unfair and stupid, just remember: everyone else can see that for themselves. You’re not legally obliged to respond.
came to elektronauts for the machines, stayed for the social studies
for real though, the monome (later lines) forum was the first forum i have ever joined back in the days, which (at some point) just felt like a bunch of friends discussing or helping each other out…
joining elektronauts a few years later felt… different. please, dont get me wrong - i got a lot of friendly and useful help/ advice from many people on here, but i quickly realized there is a certain undertone within some threads, which seems a little harsher from what i was used to…
anyway, just a few thoughts… i (for myself) think that sometimes it is enough to be passive member… i mean, why should i share every little something on here…?
I’m drawn to the flagged posts like a moth to a flame. I’ve stopped caring about getting them as a good % of people on here know the score.
Flagging is the best thing happened to modern men since viagra
not trying to start anything again, but you should take a break from the forum…this level of persecution complex is baffling. i get a joke can be a joke, but in the context of your overall behavior its silly.
you said something that people pushed back on in reasonable and unreasonable ways. it happens. myself and others have tried to level with you in good faith and kindness, but you keep writing stuff like this.
people are sometimes rude on forums, just let it go and move on. better yet play all the gear you got. good luck.
You know how when someone says “I’m not being racist, but…” you can be pretty sure they’re about to be racist…
Well…
Let’s all just not, yeah?
You tend to tell people about their complexes regularly assuming and projecting the worst without offering much self reflection in the process. I‘ll hit that ignore button now, I‘m done reading your contentious and rude messages. Goodbye.
Inception material right here…
If you die in the complaint…you die in real life…
Had to look that up…
Well , being the OP and 53 the research appears rock solid…. I’ll get my coat.
Ah man that’s a rough one. Maybe it’s just post 52 your sense of humor has become more refined.
