Is there a way to import MIDI from Ableton? For example, Can I create a MIDI track in Ableton that controls my Moog Sub 37 and record that MIDI track into the Ocatrack so I can get rid of the laptop and just use the OT/Sub 37?
Short answer: No. OT has no method for importing midi files.
Longer answer: You can attempt to live record the midi from Ableton into the OT, but unless you have fairly perfect sync I suspect you’ll be disappointed. OT has a highly tuned but regimented sequencer; as such, most externally generated midi sequences don’t translate well even via live recording.
Try the two possible Master Clock/Transport scenarios:
• OT as Master
• Live as Master
Press Play then wait 2/4 bars until the two BPM are around the same value, then go in Live Rec Mode (REC+PLAY) on OT.
This way you “import” your MIDI, just double check everything is correctly sequenced.
Remember that the QUANTIZE LIVE REC setting in the PROJECT > SYSTEM > PERSONALIZE menu will determine whether the time resolution of the recorded MIDI data will be full sequencer steps or micro timing resolution.
