Just checked AHs MIDI implementation chart and the bad news is, there doesn’t seem to be a CC for trigging the env at all. Unless one can send a MIDI note to trig the env somehow (?) , your only chance is to set the envfollower filtering to a suitable range which reliably triggers the env from your kicks.
??? This is Software. How should I add it?
Go to the “Port Config” page of your AH, and make sure it is configured to receive midi through the midi port. Then, go to the “Channels” page of your AH, and make sure that it is assigned a midi channel number. Use one of the midi tracks from your Digitakt, and assign it the same midi channel number as the AH.
Now, go to the “AMP page (CC Select)” of your Digitakt, and assign the CC #16 to one of the boxes. This is the CC for envelope threshold on the AH. Go to the “FLTR page (CC Value),” and the corresponding knob will now control the value for the envelope threshold on your AH. Try leaving the threshold high enough to not trigger the envelope while your track plays, and P-locking it to a threshold that does trigger the envelope only on the kicks. This might require 2 trigs; one to lower the value, and one to raise it again immediately after. You can use micro-timing to adjust how soon the second trig raises the threshold again.
yeah, that would do it too I guess, good call
Unfortunately not, here is a workaround :
Thanks everyone for the quick and detailed answer. I’m going to try this tonight and report back.
Why not use the lfo synced to midi if its 4 to the floor side chaining your after
Also, it’s only day one with Heat and I’m not blown away yet. But much more experiments to come.
But one thing I’ve noticed is when playing with the wet/dry you get some cancellations . I suppose that cant be helped.
Have you tried a Vermona filter?
I had a Vermona Retroverb Lancet and it was the best filter I’ve ever heard but i sold it to buy MDUW; haven’t heard AH yet.
No, haven’t really heard the Vermona but will check videos for a start - thanks for the tip!
Edit: btw, just came in from the studio where me and my brother coincidentally just had 30 min of AH mangling on a bassline from AR’s DVCO (merged with Lifeforms and Telemark) - so much fun
I had the Filter Lancet - same as the retroverb but without the verb. It really sounds great, the filter and drive are a universe to get lost into. It’s mono though… and the more programable nature of the Heat + more modulation options, filter types and more advanced EQ sold me on it. + extra bonus points for the form factor sitting next to my DN/DT combo. It’s beautiful;)
Yes, all those reasons are pushing me towards AH; I’ll probably buy it
How would you compare the Vermona vs AH filters?
An analog heat with the vermona retroverb filters would be heaven for me. Can’t really put it in words. I just like the filters of the retroverb better.
Especially liking the BP and HP of the Vermona. They are better, especially with the resonance involved. Vermona sounds a bit better but that’s to be expected.
…if it’s only stereo i wouldn’t search any further
This one is stereo ;). Mate of mine has it. Very cool and good sounding. Pretty big though.
Why dont you try the erica synts boxes? They seem to sound great, more vintage-like and are stereo.
Thnx for suggestions!
I’m unashamedly an Elektron fan boy, I’ve got the original trio plus both analogs and a Digitone, I don’t much of an excuse to buy Elektron gear as long as it doesn’t overlap. But with the Analog heat I don’t really get it, is it just several distortions plus a filter and LFO? How useful is it really?
If it had a compressor and full fledged EQ I would be into that, something to add to the end of the Al audio chain to polish it up and give it some analog magic but it’s not so I don’t really understand the point of it, there are plenty of comprehensive and gnarly distortion effects out there so what’s the point of heat?
How do you use yours, what purpose does it serve to you and is it worth it?
I got the mkII to use with the octatrack - you can get a good punch out of it. also dig the filter. I always use the octa filter effect on track 8 but can load up an eq or something else since heats got it covered. also overbridge / interface.
