Is the Elektron Model : Samples bad gear?

Your loss, then.

Bad Gear might be clickbait but it’s enjoyable, Florian’s jams with the gear of the ep are examples of the old phrase ‘bad craftsmen blame their tools’.

You are so right! So I’ll say the name of this video series is perfect. I’ve watched many but not the Model Samples one.

I’m pretty sure he just ran out of TRULY bad gear, and there is no shortage of people on the internet who would bitch about even the absolute best gear.

The new Rupert Neve sounds sterile to me wah!!

The 3rd Wave doesn’t even touch a PPG that I’ve never played, wah!!

The OB6 sounds like crap compared to the OBX8 that I haven’t touched.

I made these up (sort of) but you get the point.

The M:S is a wonderful piece of gear especially for the price. I think the only real things you could sort of complain about are maybe the aesthetic, and maybe the pad sensitivity. It sounds incredibly good, especially for the price, and there’s not a cheaper way to get into PROPER hardware sequencing.

I love his videos. They’re entertaining, decent reviews with a different perspective, and he does point out negatives while still being fair about them.

He just ran out of bad gear I think.

I actually have a hard time calling most gear bad actually. Bad aspects, maybe, annoying maybe, but truly bad gear is pretty far between I think.

Indeed! The point might even be: there is no bad gear :upside_down_face:

Florian/AudioPilz said in a few interviews (which I’m not going to find and link) that the premise for doing an episode on a piece of gear is being able to fill the whole screen with “bad” things people say in reviews and on forums.

That said, he was fishing for shade on the Casio Rapman, because he wanted to do an episode on it, but couldn’t find enough crap

Like his youtube format or not, his musical talent is extraordinary. I watch it just for his music.

Their loss, 99% of synthubers could learn from him how to use chords.

He’s been reviewing good gear from quite early on in the show.

I think I’ve watched all of them and there are probably about 5 things he’s absolutely hated and most of them were things like the Modal and IK synths that crashed so much they couldn’t make it through a demo.

Now that’s funny

Definition of clickbait: luring you into something that pretends to be content, but in reality it is not, its just some meaningless BS, just virtual ad space.

By this definition Bad Gear has nothing to do with clickbait. The amount of work put into each episode is unpreccedented in the world of “synthTubers”. A lot of vfx/compositing and animation in After Effects, 3 really cool jams that no offence, are much better than most of you guys can deliver, tons of jokes etc. Its a comedy show about synths. And a very good one, not just funny but also informative.

So just shut up and watch at least one full episode and stop whining about the “clickbait” nature of its title, its pathetic.

Riiiiiiiiight……

I don’t think anyone was truly questioning any of this.

While I agree with your points on his production and comedic skill, coming into a light-hearted thread and insulting people is probably not the greatest approach to get people to understand your points.

It’s a sure sign we have hit rock bottom and we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel when the most grounded guy in the room is called “@J3RK”.

Or maybe it’s a physics reference?

I wonder why he didn`t say about faulty buttons and vanishing letterings.

He said he’d borrowed it (as with a lot of stuff) from a local music shop, so probably didn’t have it long enough to notice.

So we’ve established he’s a comedian with scant knowledge of the gear he’s ‘reviewing’. File under entertainment rather than factual.

For me, the whole video was worth it for whatever that was at 7:25. 🤌

Not sure I’d agree with that.

His reviews are probably the most informative, well researched, and insightful on YouTube after Loopop and Sonicstate.

I would also disagree completely. Unless you watch a few of them, you won’t quite get what he does.

He actually uses the gear, makes a few tracks, and gets a feel for it. Then reports on whether he thinks all the internet hate is justified or not.

Even with some of what I would personally consider the worst gear he’s reviewed, he’s fair, and still points out its good points, even if he agrees that it’s either “bad” or could have used some improvements.

Hi information is detailed, accurate, and the fact that he tries it with a few genres of music, mixes it with other gear, AND is really entertaining, makes it one of the best channels for gear information.

As with ANY gear related channel, you don’t want to just watch one, and call it good. You’d probably want to watch Loopop for the dry, in-depth feature testing, etc. You’d watch a few other reviewers to get more insight as to what a cross section of people think about something. He’s as valid as any other though, and gives another perspective on a given piece of gear.

I can’t say your experience is wrong, but I can say I haven’t had either issue after owning one for more than a year. I have read that the very first batch had some problems. Maybe yours was from that batch? Or maybe I just lucked out?
