Is there a drummer in the house?

Hey all,
i recently started jamming with a drummer who is interested in incorporating electronics into his kit and i’ve been letting him use my machinedrum as a sampler being triggered off his electronic drum-pads but since i use my MD way too much for my other stuff to loan it out long term i was wondering if any of you who might be more well versed in drums than me could recommend a better, slightly cheaper, drum brain/ sampler for the job.

any help is mucho appreciated!

Right here! I use the Nord Drum 1 for my pad triggering needs although I am curious about the MD’s capibilites in this regard. I know it’s an undocumented feature on the MD and wondered if it’s there on the RTYM as well, I am getting one of those next and the pad feature is huge for me! Nord Drum 1 is a bit limited I picked up 2 on here recently, only 4 mono outs but has gotten me into the idea of using pads with a real kit.

yes, ND2!

Gavin Harrison gives a nice little demo here:

hey guys thanks for the responses and sorry for the slow reply, work has been busy.

the ND2 looks pretty rad but i’m actually more in the market for something that’ll load samples. anyone got a suggestion for that? i’ve been letting him use my machinedrum UW at practice but i use it way too much on my other stuff to let the MD stay at the practice space.

also, on a similar topic would you say a nord drum 1 would be worth picking up for $150? there’s a used one in my area and i thought it might be cool to work with until i save up for an ND2.

Hello Dust ward,

Your friend should look at the Roland SPD SX.
The drum pads feel pretty good, and it’s compact enough allowing for easy placement around the Kit. Most of all samples can be loaded.

right on, thanks for that, looks like it should totally do the trick.

im still interested in the nord for more electronic and sounds [and to use as kind of an extra voice for my machinedrum] but the band we’re doing is really heavy noisy doom thing with some industrial elements so some sort of sampler to trigger massive scrap metal clangs [i have a whole kit made of repeatedly throwing a shopping cart down a concrete stairwell for example] is definitely a must-have for us…
