true when I was messing about with my Furthrrr Generator module this week the massive wall of sound blew me away from that in comparison to other synths. Same with my Moog Sub 37 very juicy fat bass.
In that case, the title should be changed to something affirmative, not a question.
Isn’t the Analog Four the most incredible and deep instrument from Elektron so far?
No, it is the Octatrack.
A4 FTW !
?
Always felt pretty affirmative to me. It’s rhetorical by nature. It expects a supporting response. This is a thread that supports the statement of capability.
Otherwise it would be “IS the Analog Four the most…?”
As I said above, people are welcome to create another thread to argue about whether the A4 is any good or not. You could go do that now?
There you go, I made it for you.
I will simply remove Analog Four of my notifications category, end of the story.

For the win…or fuck the word.
For the last week, I’ve left the A4 alone and focused on the Digitone again. The A4 has been so much fun I haven’t used the Digitone that much.
It was really interesting feeling the differences between the two units. Made me really appreciate just how many modulation sources there are in the A4 and how much I would like an FM Synth in the A4 “style”.
I missed the Performance knobs too. Its nice to be able to filter just 2 tracks and leave the other 2 untouched, while simultaneously increasing a different parameter. That would give some crazy FM sounds.
Can you all ensure contributions are constructive. There are lots of topics picking apart the sonic traits of the A4. It seems that this is a topic for those commited owners wishing to share positive experiences.
The topic is currently generating too many flags. The bickering really needs to stop one way or the other. Thanks in advance
That’s interesting, but how can both be compare? Are both units using the same analog filter?
I really enjoy working with the Typhon, and I would say it is almost impossible to make it sound bad untill you start modulating or adding effects, so it may be down to its simple architecture, right?
At the end of the day it is 2vco and a 24db lowpass filter? Then it comes all the effects, amazing envelopes, sequencer, and modulation options
Little box with enormous amount of fun.
YES!!!
that’s what I like to see
A4 mk1 all the way
Actually can we change this thread to exclude mk2??
Sorry mk2 users…you’re just not the same…
Also my solution to the individual outs issue is to buy two mk1 a4s (same price as mk2) and stack your sounds for extra fatness :::)))
I’ve been exploring the sync a lot lately with triangle waves and it’s so nice to have different envelopes modulating the oscs pitch, volume or PW and two LFOs to modulate their depth and decay times and/or the bend depth and time.
Also the modulatable sync amount is so nice.
Very fresh sounding and usable stuff to be found this way.
The AD env for the vibrato is also v useful in a patch like this and I can’t think of another analog synth that has all these functions.
Any tips on approaching sync? I don’t know if I just don’t understand how sync works in general, or if I don’t get the A4’s sync but it never seems to do anything when I try messing with it, feel like I’m probably missing something obvious there.
From Google
“Oscillator sync is a feature in some synthesizers with two or more VCOs, DCOs, or “virtual” oscillators. As one oscillator finishes a cycle, it resets the period of another oscillator, forcing the latter to have the same base frequency.”
Here also more info regarding this “technique”
Hope it helps
there might be better groove boxes
there might be better synths
but for me A4 is the best combination of a groove box and a synth
Change the Pulse phase/PWM to explore this further.
What an inspiring and enjoyable set. Those A4s are well and truly rinsed.
