Really nice!
Thanks! Glad to hear someone likes it.
Good stuff!!
Nice. I like it.
Yeah, this rocks
Planing a live performance using only the A4 and if possible, triggering also images using midi from its sequencer… something still pending to test.
Here are some sound example patterns:

Im under the impression it will be so much fun, and I’m still pending to setup the performance knobs too
This machine simply just sounds so good.
I always love to listen to the A4 sounds posted here.
Quick question for the group — how are you all entering notes on the sequencer? Are you using the mini keyboard on the panel? Entering trigs and adjusting the note on the NOTE page? Using an external keyboard?
I keep changing my mind about which approach works best and wondering if I’m missing a different/better approach altogether since none of these options is perfect.
Possible.
Mostly used mini keyboard.
Anyone triggering pattern changes from ableton?
Is there a way to do ‘direct jumps’ from session view without having to wait until the steps are complete? Or is it just not possible at all?
Something like what Ned Rush is doing here, but on the analog four instead of simpler. Sort of clip quantise but using patterns from the A4
Thanks
Can wait to test that actually thanks!
Don’t know about Ableton, but with A4 Multi Map, you can change patterns with notes, and different behaviors :
CHG MODE sets the mode of starting the pattern. D.START starts the selected pattern directly from its first step. D.JUMP starts the selected pattern on the step following the current sequencer step. SEQ starts the pattern from its first step once the current pattern has reached its final step.
It should be also possible to play a particular step of a song directly, with Song Pointer Position midi messages. Not simple.
yeah that’s one way to do it, but it would be a mess trying to set it up and remember which note triggering which pattern etc
im sending pattern changes fine from ableton using the session view, but i couldn’t find a way to emulate the direct jump from ableton
not a really big deal though I can always still control the program changes from the A4 though. would be nicer if i can trigger everything from a launchpad for example
First time A4 owner soon. What are the early stuff i should know or try out
- Read the manual
- Noodle around, discover some things on your own
- Scroll to the top of this thread, read every comment and follow every link
- Have FUN
Everything!
But seriously, the macros are one of the coolest things about that device imo and it has tons of cool things. I initially thought it’s a bit of a hassle but it’s not and it opens up the instrument so much.
Also, as obscurerobot already stated, this thread is a goldmine.
So many great tips.
@Starscream
Once you have done what @obscurerobot and @Strutter mentioned, learn about saving/reloading kits, patterns and sounds.
And have fun.

The Pulse OSC isn’t square until you set PW to around -4.
-
If you find yourself running out of hands, don’t forget about performance macros!
-
Unlike the Digi’s FUNC+YES/NO to quick-save/-reload all settings, the A4 lets you quick-save/-reload the individual settings related to Kits, Sounds, Tracks, Patterns, and Songs.
- Find these key combos, get comfortable with them, and get in the habit of using the appropriate one when starting to work on that section. It’s like having an undo built in and can save your ass
There are free A4 sound packs on Elektrons store.
They are great for learning via deconstruction.
Definitely take a minute to understand kits/project/patterns if you are not familiar with them on the analogs. It’s different to the Digi’s.
One of the early mistakes I made was completely changing/messing up a kit on a new pattern that was used by other patterns I had already created which broke the sound of them completely
I would read the manual first, even before getting the instrument. It basically helps understunding how much it can cover, and it is pretty good written. Then you can watch some video on youtube like reviews or jams, or maybe making a track from scratch.
In case you are spanish speaker “the bass valley” has an amazing online course, and you will obviously get LOTS of valuable info in this forum.
Take your time, dont rush, and enjoy this amazing trip.
