Well then you’re all set for your life altering experience! I’d say that the OT is basically the Elektron workflow on Legendary mode, where the A4 is just a Medium difficulty. As long as you know your substractive synthesis basics and how to assign LFOs, I think you’re about to have a great time
I can confirm that it works (with an OT mk1)
Finally dusted off my Analog Four after my recent obsession over Digitone (bought shortly after A4) and Syntakt (firmware update).
I’ve always wished A4 had retrigger — now I see I’ve just been using it with the tempo set too low.
I’ve been looking at this, just struck by its beauty but knowing it’s not for me because I have no interest in an AR. I was actually thinking about messaging them to ask if they had ideas for just a smaller OT+A4 setup.
Then, at 2:00am this morning, I sat bolt upright in bed and thought, “I could just put two A4s in there!”
And now I can’t get this setup out of my head
When I bought one a4mk2, they accidentally sent me 2
(Sent one back though)
I prefer one elektron sequencer max. Too many options make me dig less into the machine (scratching surface). My total sound comes from the connection with fx and looper,
But the Groove must be right with just a kick, a hh and a bass.
Also, an arpeggiator is a fancy retrigger
That’s a partial workaround, but one can’t p-lock most important arp parameters on the A4.
Ha true!
“this is almost a twenty year old machine…”
it is not.
Sue me
Qperf knob for me is the best thing ever. all elektron machines should have this. it is incredible for happy accidents from experimenting with filter 1&2 on every track, etc
i’ve found so many new timbres just by randomly twisting that thing. its an incredible tool. sort of like the crossfader in a way, i guess
that’s the main reason i cant bring myself to buy the mk1, despite the massive price difference. aside from the fact that the grey mk2 is the coolest instrument design i have ever seen in my life
I never use it
Is there a MIDI controller hack of some sort that could replicate that feature? Or maybe using OT as MIDI sequencer?
Agreed! you can press Perf on MK1 and then twist the Perf knobs there. didn’t realise there was a dedicated knob on Mk2 actually!
It’s cool for automation too, can record it or draw automation in the DAW, then send it to move a Perf control, therefore moving many automation params with one curve, rather than many.
Oh yeah, MKI perf allows for multiple track settings, doesn’t it. I regrettably haven’t used the perf controls much yet!
well, i like it because i love having an actual potentiometer on an elektron machine. it’s very useful imo
Perf is so cool to use - you can really get some cool happy accidents there by turning the pot up to max then scanning through the parameters, you can sometimes chance on something that sounds awesome once you sweep the knob. Then save them all with the kit and jam out!
