It is something that I want to do also and one think I realized is if you want a bit of coherence in-between the sections keeping one drum element the same : the kick, or snare or hihat pattern and change everything else. There is a lot you can do while keeping the kick on 1/3 or even changing a bit with ghost notes. Double time and halftime part are also element that I really like for contrast.

When I get in a four bar rut I listen to Piano Tune (peshay) and Dimotane Co (squarepusher) - these tracks give two extremes of how to morph and transform electronic music, the one gradual and highly calculated, the other by fast cuts.
