I’m seeking a way to rig up a laptop to be instantly able to be pulled out of my backpack and able to be played. Limited space- like public transit. A quick riff able to be plugged into Ableton. I just need a way to combine a small midi keyboard with my laptop into one concrete unit. I haven’t the slightest clue how to go about this- or what’s on the market.
If someone knows of any case that can hold, maybe, a 25 key midi keyboard where I can instantly latch it on top of the laptop keyboard that would be amazing.
We’re living in the future, so such a thing MUST be out there. I realize an OP-1 would fulfill this and be much more spacially efficient- but there’s more potential with a laptop, and since I’ve already got the laptop- it would be more financially efficient to try to extend what I currently have than to drop the cash on another piece of gear(despite wanting it)
+1, plus it’s (or at least used to be) a cheap way to get the Korg Legacy Collection which is why I got one in the first place. It’s nowhere near as nice as the OP1’s keybed, though.
Thanks! I’ve got a nanokey Studio, but I haven’t had any luck being able to send note data to Ableton. It COULD be user error(maybe I need to play with the monitoring settings- as I haven’t tried it since I’ve become more familiar)
It there IS a system error, would the regular nanokeys work?
Also, is there a way to prevent any potential sliding about when I’m in frenzied areas?
the 25 key midi keyboards are terrible I had a cme xkey 37 was great but just broke and they are way overpriced.
Im using the launchpad mkii with the 95 script which has scales and all sorts. Best solution I found other than buying a 88 key real keyboard with sustain pedals etc.
I HAVE been interested in Renoise ever since I’ve heard Venetian Snares used it. Though, Redux is very similar to that- but instead a plug in? Is there anyway I could load that into Ableton and program my music that way?
I suppose Renoise would be a better approach to making music with a more compositional approach?
Aside from that, surely there must be a method of being able to mount a midi keyboard over the keyboard of my laptop- like little frames that clip onto the sides that I can slide a korg nano-keys right into.
Current portable options are mpc live which isnt exactly tiny but definitely portable. More of a coffee shop option than a busride. OP1 which sounds like the best bet for a portable sketchbook, its the only pocket sized option. But also limited depending in your perspective. Ipad and equally sized quneo arent a bad bet for a backpack rig, I think that you’ll still need a battery plus something to connect it to the ipad though. ive heard beatmaker is the tits and then you have a whole range of professional quality synths and have the option to capture midi and audio at the expense of tactility, but that shouldnt be a worry for a sketchpad rig. Also you could grab an LPK bluetooth midi keyboard or a nanokeys, id go with the nano keys. Otherwise check out the battery pack threads, grab a decksaver and just take OT with you, or a digitakt. The other option is just use your laptop and qwerty keys. Melodies on the road, finesse in the studio, I dont think you’ll need the advantages of a laptop out and about, they undoubtedly have more options but youve gotta decide whether you want to build melodies and song structures on the go or if you want to be mixing and mastering on the bus, I cant imagine the latter being fun.
make a suitcase with a built in laptop, SSD, drumpads, ribbon controller, theremin, talkbox/breath controller and interface and speakers, people will think youre a businessman then you can sit down and unleash your wacky case of madness on the train
