Okay, so I have my beat rolling along on channel 1 to 4, pretty simple and now I want to play this long vocal sample in live. I don’t want it to start at the beginning everytime the trig hits, so I mess around with the sample start location while still recording. Like assigning the lfo to the sample start location, but manually.
On playback, Digi will play the notes of my long vocal sample just fine, but it doesn’t capture the sample start value I entered by knobbing around. It will hold it’s current position in the SRC page. Setting each step manually by parameter locking a specific trig does the trick, but that’s not very musical and cumbersome.
Am I missing something? All other automation does work fine. Is this a bug?
There are a couple things that’s could be going wrong here.
Off the top of my head, maybe you are attempting to live record multiple sample start positions per step with your hand tweaking?
The digitakt does not have parameter slides, as well as only one parameter value for each parameter can be recorded per step. If you are trying to live record multiple sample start points to a single step it may not work as expected.
Of course I’m just taking a stab at what it could be. A little more detail on what you are doing is needed to actually pinpoint if the unexpected outcome is a bug or not.
Thanks for your answer, I’ll try to further clarify.
Let’s say on step 1, I would like my sample to start at sample start position x. On step 6 I would like start at sample start location y.
First I live record my steps. Stop recording and listen to the outcome. I hear my sample correctly start at step 1 and 6.
Now back in to live recording and start changing sample start location manually with the encoder (E). Position x for step 1 and position y for step 6.
It seems this encoder rotation doesn’t get recorded or captured. If I press and hold the trig I can set the sample start location anywhere I want for that step, achieving my goal.
I loaded up a longer sample, placed trigs on 1 and 6, and confirmed that live recording of sample start does work. From your description I do not see what the problem could be.
Though I did notice that sample start will only effect steps the steps that have trigs on them (1&6) in this case and while the other steps which are lock trigs (yellow) do have sample start position locked to them but since they don’t trig the sample start position doesn’t change.
Thanks for testing, I appreciate that! So it does work, that’s ff-ing interesting man, new shit has come to light. I’m trying again, tomorrow somewhere.
Hi guys, just wanted to follow up. Sample start is working just fine during live recording. I was probably lost in controls or smoke thanks for testing!
