its adds up when other companies now think they can sell there plugins for subscription.
wonder if overbridge will be available in the long run, it has to be right?
Its safe to say that in 10-15 years everything (like Ableton etc) will be available on tablet
Thatās almost as much as I paid for my refurbished iPad Pro 11" 2020 A12Z (gotta love the naming system) one year ago, must be even cheaper today. Iād recommend not bothering with base models, an older refurbished Pro would be better in every possible way:
- USB-C
- better CPU performance (except single-core)
- more RAM
- better display
- pencil support
- decent built-in speakers
I am using an iPad 2 as an interface for my H9 Pedal. I think it is over 10 years old. My wife is using an iPad 3 right now while laying in bed for YouTube browsing, shopping and watching TV shows in her native language. This one is 8-10 years old. I am using a M1 2021 iPad Pro ($200 off regular price at purchase) for Photo editing and various Music experimentation. Should be good for OS updates for at least 6 years.
Fair enough, but even mine blows away the specs on say an MPC Live 2 or Digitakt.
My workflow doesnāt really require 10 instances of an AU synth running simultaneously and Iām somewhat suspicious of people who say they really āneedā that.
Most of the time Iām running an app in standalone mode as a sound module to sample into my Digitakt or running 2-3 apps at most in AUM where Iāll record some stems for further development in the DAW.
My humble base model does quite well with those use cases.
Some synths have only limited polyphony, so I guess that would explain some of this need.
There should be an investigation! Anyone trying to use multiple music apps, browser, and email all at the same time should be locked up! Using Stage Manager is 5 years minimum! Just kidding.
Jokes aside, I think the M1 marked a turn for how developers view the iPad. We all know the processors have been crazy powerful, but there is also RAM to think about. With the M1 iPad Air, Pro, anything, the base model has 8gb RAM. I think the M1 played a big part in Davinci Resolve coming to iPad, as it may run on older iPads, but they recommend M1 and higher. I think think that we will be seeing more apps doing the same as time rolls on. And maybe it means running more plugins in a DAW like Logic. One wish for me would be, now that Logic is in the game, more of my favorite plugins get developed for iPad.
Yes, honestly Iām nervous about the incoming required specs for Logic.
But other than that, Iāve yet to run into anything I canāt do on my current setup.
Up until this year I had an iPad Air 2 (!) that ran apps like Koala, Drambo and Grooverider GR 16 perfectly. And I could still have a decent multi app modular setup in AUM, Iād I picked the apps carefully.
Of course, having a more powerful setup is ideal, not arguing that, but my original comment was responding to the person implying you need to spend $1000+ on an iPad just to get in the door. You donāt.
Even if you look at the iPad as a chameleon-like box that can just run one app at a time I would still find it to be great value. Having Koala as SP 404 replacement, Drambo as an Elektron box replacement, GR 16 as an Electribe etc. not to mention all of the incredible synths and FX. Even as a āone app at a time boxā it runs circles around any piece of hardware, especially that goofy āportableā tracker Polyend has just introduced, lol.
True!
Thatās fair.
Although Iād argue that sometimes you may want to use a lot of fx AUs simultaneously, but that may depend on the genre. Personally, I want to turn my iPad into a multi-fx unit with 18 inputs, so the more power, the better.
But honestly the biggest reason for buying a Pro was USB-C, Iām too old to be bothered with weird cables and stuff. And I mostly use it with my OP-Z, so itās nice to connect them with just one regular charging cable.
There is an iPhone version or it is just like a screen mirroring? An iPhone version could be cool (like for Garage Band)
Unfortunately, this is just an image to show that you can import your GarageBand projects into Logic. The whole thing is on appleās Logic page.
Alright. Still nice workflow option
The space it will take up on an iPad is one Logic.
Seems logical.
It would be really welcomed if they include support for Inter-App Audio apps as well as AUV3. I believe Apple created IAA, and know that GarageBand has supported it before (not sure about now), so canāt be too much of a stretch.
IAA has been deprecated for years.
was never stable enough at least in my experience but I loved the idea of IAA
Thereās still some great apps that havenāt made the jump to AUV3 yet, so it would be a shame to not be able to use them. Maybe thereāll be a way to route them in somehow.
