Looping 16 steps within a 64 step pattern

Bit of a noob to the A4, but I could not find this in the manual or Google search.

How do I select say page 1:4 and loop those 16 steps if I want to work on just that part of the 64 step pattern?
Waiting around three pages each time until the one I’m currently working is beyond annoying.

I’d love to work on each page of 16 step, one at a time looping, then move to the next one and finally have my full 64 step pattern.

Please tell me there is a magic button combination that can loop a page.

I dont think there is one…you should workaround this by using Song mode ; or shifting the page then setting 16/16 instead of 64 ; or copy the page and paste it to another pattern then work it there, once you’re done copy back to the right page of the original pattern.

Haven’t used the A4, but with the other Elektron sequencers, it is often better to work in 16/16 or 32/32 to lay a foundation before going to 64 steps, as the sequencer will copy the pattern accordingly. I don’t believe there is any way to shift the focus to only the next 16 steps unless you program it in song mode.

Also worth noting that you can chain patterns and record beyond the 64 step length in live record mode.

This has always been my biggest gripe with the Elektron sequencer, having a preference for real-time recording, and it makes working within chains even more unappealing.
It’s been that way for so long now that I fear Elektron don’t see it as an issue, at least they finally put in a click track.

function + page then left arrow navigate to advanced mode. then change length I think…

i used to be able to have a track 1 2 and 3 running 16 steps and track 4 32 steps but lost this feature not knowing why… ooh maybe when it says in advance mode

16/32 just increase this to 32/32 … there ya go

i also keep losing the ability to play chords on a track, sometimes works sometimes not :frowning:

it’s a fair point, seems like it could be addressed, looping between 2 arbitrary steps could be a powerful performance feature

i’m not sure if you would be happy by just copying that page (2,3 or 4) to a new 16step pattern on page 1 as a workaround, then there’s the issue of the other tracks too

what he said ^

I may be wrong, but it seems to me the a4 lacks individual track lengths
which i use a lot on the OT, but it might be there somewhere, and ive just not come across the option
anyone?

to answer the question, somebody (whom i cant see now that im writing!) suggested the work around id use,
copy the page in question and paste it somewhere else to work on that measure
you could even paste it to the first measure, then loop at 16/64, if needed copy and paste the first measure to another measure so as not to lose it

each track on the A4 can be 1>64 steps long, so polyrhythms are easy, not quite the same flexibility on tempo as in the OT tho
