MC 707 / 101 : New Roland Grooveboxes

Yep. On that note - I tried recording from USB, but failed completely. Couldn’t for the life of me figure out why. Computer just didn’t recognise the 707. At all.

But my version of OSX is old, so it could be I just need to update.

Did you install Roland’s drivers?

I did not. I was naive and figured it was just a matter of plugging it in and it would show up, Model:Samples style.

I realise now, this is not the case  thanks for showing me the way.

No problem. It’s a shame drivers are required; I’d love my Boutiques even more if they were USB class compliant.

had a glance at the manual. btw there is a FW update for the 101, v.1.0.2 (sorry dont know if old news - no idea what OS it ships with)… And monophonic slices/chops are a go! Drum kits support a maximum of 31 mute groups (why so many tho?)

The MIDI imolementation is rather basic at first glance… does this thing even send out pgm chng?

No tempo nudging either, boo

Yes, no ACB models… but to be honest I use mostly samples anyway… and with the mc-707 you get 4 layers of them !

yeah, 31 mute groups for 16 instruments… rather peculiar.

Ah, man, I just assumed it was. But, if the damn thing records eight channels at once into the computah, then maybe drivers are needed to get it sorted. Anyway, thanks.

You can step nudge, but that’s not the same, is it? Micro timing stuff, it can do. But maybe that’s not what you mean.

no, I mean tempo nudge like on the elektrons (pressing left/right cursors). Makes manual beatmatching / sync such a breeze!

btw, that you, mr formerly known as andreasro##n? WB sir

Okay, then I get it. Yeah, that would be neat.

This is me  had no idea anyone would remember me. Thanks

Don’t think so. No CCs either.

one more question if I may. I grabbed the reference manual, but it seems incomplete somehow… Am I also supposed to read the owner’s manual as well?

I couldn’t find all the info wrt the tone engine and all the VA settings and whatnot from the ref.manual… What am I missing?

I must say the amount of FX on this box is impressive! Can’t wait to get home tonight to try all this stuff out.

The only reference manual I know of is 120 pages… is it the one you have ?

there’s two manuals, owners manual and the reference manual. Only DLed the reference manual (89 pages according to the iOS books reader app).

120 pages.

The manual’s a nightmare for any other purpose than what it claims to be, a ref manual. This one’s best learned by just putting in the time and experimenting, and once you hit a wall, search specifically for a way out using the ref manual. Reading it from page to page is not something you’d want even for your worst enemy.

lol… now imagine your main language is not even english…

The MC-303 manual was the same. At least they’re consistent…

that’s the 707 reference. I have a 101.

I hope this doesn’t mean that the tones on the 101 are not editable by partials at all? That’d be a major downer…
